the problems that arise from statist control freaks running education

was listening to a piece on the radio about the govt's rather bonkers measurement based system for the education of young kids. but the real worry is that apparently they are forcing it on all schools, state and private.

this despite the fact that it totally $#@!s up, for example, the steiner school method which can be very successful (i know people who've found the dosh to send dyslexic kids there with great results), as well as negating completely any pursuit of alternatives demonstrably successful elsewhere in the world.

    stalinist nutters, so they are.

You're gong to have to elaborate as I don't know what you're talking about - not having heard the article myself.

Is this similar to their stalinist national curriculum for nursery schools?

Gordon Brown will tell you what you need to know.

yes it is - same thing, but the article seemed to infer this overlapped with primary schools to? doesn't apply in scotland (thank feck for the snp, and progressive politics) so i'm not sure.

Point of order: education has been a devolved power since the inception of the Scottish parliament, which is surely something that should be credited to labour?

However, we should credit the Nats in their Police number growth stats following their manifesto promises - one.

Lies, damn lies, Sun exclusives and government statistics

I used to be involved in information management in the NHS, and trust me when I say that some of the stats - particularly the ones that made government look good - were based on extremely ropey interpretations of inclusion/exclusion criteria.

Was the Scottish Parliament not only created by Labour in an attempt to appease the SNP... I.E. without the SNP the Labour party would NEVER have agreed to it.

And the Scottish Curriculum has always been seperate from the English one due to us having an entirely different education system.

You didn't really think you'd get away with that did you?

The Labour party embraced devolution in 1974 as a response to the electoral successes of the SNP in the two elections of that year. There really isn't much doubt about that.

Thank you Mr Chicken. I needed someone to stand up for me.

It doesn't suit Labour to split Scotland from the UK due to the number of safe seats that they'd lose in Westminster.. hence this half way house Scottish Parliament... hopefully not too long before we're away from Westminster completely though!

Although Keir Hardie's Scottish Labour Party embraced it much much earlier!
