    Re: harry potter

I'd have stole one, read the last page, and broadcast to the world who's killed Harry Potter (or whatever it is the treckie geeks are desperate to find out). I'm like that though. Can't help it.

By the way, was that a limerick you wrote? It doesn't seem to rhyme.

Was on a bender last night. Seen a queue of 200 deep outside Waterstones last night at 10pm. Dont think they liked the drunken abuse of 'Harry Potter takes heroin through his baws'.

i reckon it's a good thing all the harry potter madness-i'd rather see 11/12 year old kids like that, than the shell suited wee neds hanging about

This marketing hype really works though. The first couple of books sold about 1 million hardback and 3 million paperback in the UK but the last two sold 3 million hardback and 1 million paperback. Same number of readers but much higher profits.

But now the hardback sells at the same price the 1st paperback sold at so are they making a profit at all?

Passed Waterstones last night and thought it was hilarious... cool enough for the wee kids dressed up as wizards etc but find the geeky 26 year olds a slightly disturbing sight. I've never managed to get past page 34 on the 1st book myself but then I think I'm 25 years older than the target reader.

Bloomsbury do they sell to bookshops at say 13 a book, the fact that Asda, Tesco et al are selling them at about a fiver a pop it's their profits taking the hit

I dont get it either, not a Harry Potter fan at all, but each to their own, and I guess the 20 somethings could be doing a lot worse than dressing up and queueing for a book.

    Re: harry potter

Suffice to my original post I think HP's good if he encourages people to read. In my experience "readers" are more balanced people than non-readers although I'm in no way knocking non-readers. I just think reading other people's opinions gives you a more balanced outlook on life. This can obviously take the form of football forums too.

My "gateway" to reading was Oor Wullie - Enid Blyton - Hardy Boys - Michael Hardcastle - Stephen King - Charles Bukowski - The classics. And finally, EGB and Colr's debates

So hats off to JK. Respect to a struggling single mother for her contrinbution to literature

It's still pish in my eyes though you geeks

    Iv got a question..

I remember the 1st harry potter film and the guy that played harry was about 12 yr old he was younger than me but if you look at him now he looks about 20 whats that all about?
The 8yr time difference between the films I'd imagine.

You're on the WKD's aint you?

    I'll spell it out simply;

The time it takes you to change a DVD : 1min

The time between making films : Years.
