    Mc neil

Sorry but hes not the keeper he thinks he is, I dont care if he is a hibs fan, I dont care if he comes from leith what I care about is him keeping the ball out the net and today showed that whilst he may be a good prospect at the moment he is not ready.
I know he is a young guy with potential but we need to start next season with a bit of an old head that can put a bit of confidence into the defenders in front of him.

I do think that he can be an excellent keeper for us but I think he was to blame for all three goals today two speak for themselves but why did he rush from his line for the second made it easy for the chip.

having said that he will be an excellent keeper but with all thats went on with our keepers this season i think that we need to get someone with a bit more experience

and following another thread yes Marshal has to go the goalkeeping coach takes the keepers for training and advises the manager about who should play given the calamities we had with Zibby and Brown going on the keepers coach advice we stuck with Zibby for far too long under Mowbray and J.C so new keeper and new coach .

No one is mistake free but there are basic errors and the 3 keepers we have used this season have all made them and lot of the time it has been in the position they have taken apart from the brown through the legs so maybe Marshall is to blame but hes not on the pitch so the keepers have to take the blame.
who to come in? well I dont know what about Banks from the PBS who looks like a decent keeper.
OH NO being a bit controversial

    Re: Mc neil

My feeling has been this season that Andy McNeil has been thrown in to the first team a wee bit too early, and it is all because we had been lumbered (thanks to the previous manager) with two inadequate goalkeepers in Simon Brown and Zibby. Overall, I think has dealt with the pressure very well, and indeed for me he was our young player of the year. Goalkeeper is such a high pressure position in the team and requires great focus and discipline. I think has done well, but as I keep on saying, a club like Hibs needs to have a good, proven experienced goalkeeper between the sticks.

I think McNeil will be a terrific goalkeeper in time, but it is unfair on him to have to cope with being the Hibs first choice keeper at such an early age. He will be an excellent back-up goalkeeper next season IMO. I am sure Collins will bring in an experienced no1. We cannot afford to have another season of keeper errors like we have had this season.

BTW I don't think he was entirely to blame for Adam's two goals yesterday. For the first, there were so many players crowding around the six yard box, yet none of the Hibs defenders got anywhere near the ball. For the second, I agree he should have had a defender covering the near post as it almost impossible for a keeper to cover both sides when a fre-kick is taken. FWIW Adam has a terrific left foot, and it is about the only attribute to his game worth mentioning.

Got to agree there. Most fans just see an error and not many think that maybe it was just a really good free-kick. The first goal was a crowded area and probably didn't see it and the third the ball was always swerving away from him which was very unlucky.

Some keepers come rushing out to try and narrow the angle and make it difficult. Unfortunatly it didn't work today. Don't think you can blame McNeil. Blame anyone from midfield for not tracking back.

I don't think our goal keeping problems is our keepers I'm sure it's Gordan Marshall. All our keepers start of either ok or good then go down hill.

    Re: Mc neil

I don't think you can pin the blame on Andy for the first 2 goals and as others have said the first 2 were nice bits of skill by the hun. However, Andy has to be blamed for his positioning at the third goal but he is young and he has, in the main, done well since he came into the team. Have people forgotten how bad Brown and Zibby were??

    Re: Mc neil

I think people are needing to lay off McNeil a bit as he is far more superior than Zibby or Brown ever has been. He is still young and will learn from his mistakes.

    Re: Mc neil

Mcneil is an example of a young player being asked to do far to much at far to early a stage in his career and it is now rather unfortunate that he is having to carry the can for Mowbrays two disasters and JC/RP not being able to bring in any suitable back up in January.

He seems to have great strength of character though as he has now lost poor goals at Inverness, against Hearts and again yesterday but he approaches each game brimming with self confidence and with a positive outlook and is determined to do well.

What is concerning is the way JC is bumming him up with words like 'brilliant' and 'outstanding' and 'a find' which does indicate that JC is seeing things that few others are

JC has to bring in at least one other keeper in the summer and I quite like Dorus because Mcneil is at best an all right sort keeper who might get a little better but he is never going to be a show stopper.

    Re: Mc neil

Sorry but having watched the goals on Hibs Interactive again.

I don't blame McNeil for any of the two, the first EVERY player missed it, how many times have we seen this in EVERY league in the world?? When a ball is whipped in and it goes straight in???

The second was just a wonderful piece of skill, get of the laddie's back ffs.

I see everyone forgets his saves over the last few weeks that have kept us in games???

I agree that we need to bring in an experianced keeper, but there is no way McNeil should be treated this way. get a grip.

Someone with a sensible outlook at last. Can't believe how critical we are . Some were pushing for Alan Combe to come to ER and look at his gaffe yesterday. Goalies in every league make mistakes and in that respect Andy is no different. However he is young and still at a very early learning stage of his development. He has shown enough attributes already to show us all that he could turn out to be a very, very good 'keeper. Remember Gordon made more than a few mistakes when he broke into the Hearts team and now he's Scotland's number 1.
Please see reason folks and give the young lad a chance.
