'Crossing' Incident 39,456 Creates Further Unjustified Storms...

    http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1875022006

I think football players should leave this off the field but when we have the so called leading quality Scottish newspaper running with this as a front page story we really are in a sad state of affairs..

    Pathetic and sad.

Is this really Scotland as we approach 2007?

Re: 'Crossing' Incident 39,456 Creates Further Unjustified Storms...

I agree with all the above comments and blowing things out of proportion.

    However.....

Boruc seems to have a habit of attracting controversy. The last time he was 'warned for crossing himself' he was actually warned for a whole pile of other stuff that was inflammatory behaviour. In the game at Easter Road recently, he was making all sorts of gestures to the Hibs supporters when they equalised.

I just dont understand why he needs to do it. It is not as if he is neil lennon and gets a deal of grief from opposition supporters and is reacting to that. Having said that, if he keeps this kind of behaviour up, it will get that way.

I have no doubt he is a genuine catholic and his crossing himself is sincere. I just think he does it in a manner he knows will cause a rammy. With the Scottish media the way it is, there is only going to be one outcome, a storm in a teacup.

All easily avoided if someone at celtic tells him to behave.

The guy is at it. Theres blessing yourself of which there is no problem with whatsoever.

However the difference here is, that he is blessing himself at Rangers fans, in the sense hes doing it as a gesture towards them rather than just for his own personal benefit.

Pathetic that Rangers fans get wound up by this, even sadder that a Catholic feels the need to use his religion in an inflamatory manner.

I think you missed my point.

The point is directed towards the Scotsman Newspaper for having this a a front page article. (The entire front page no less)

    I think it's pathetic.

Absolute pond-life the lot of them and an embarrassment, yet again, to Scottish football.

was he though, the article seems to suggest he does it every game. if that's the case, frankly i think he's correct not to pander to them by not doing it when they play rangers.

btw why is the sign of the cross offensive to rangers fans anyway? even assuming it's something to do with some twisted notional protestantism, what's the problem? don't protestants cross themselves? anglicans do, i'm pretty sure

Been a few days since I read the article now so I'm not sure if it was s reuptable source who said it or not, but apparently the absence of him crossing himself in the first half was noted when in fornt of the Celtic support.

Would like to see the evidence of it myself, but I can only assume given he got grief for it before, that he made it clear to everyone there what he was doing as he likes a bit of attention. Why not bless himself whilst facing out onto the pitch?

    Agreed.

The thick Huns who complained after this incident to the polis should have been ejected from the crowd or charged with wasting Police time.

Huns are Huns but i suppose The Scotsman is also The Scotsman..

    It's unbelievable.

Someone screams "Goat ye on Video this time ya c u n t.."

Really? (Except this was news worthy of a full page on the front page of The Scotsman..)

Do people of this pathetic wee nation of ours or the press care so much when both Benji and Zemmama direct their prayers to their god EVERY week? No? Do we cut out Ronaldinho's wee prayer to his god when he scores a peach live in front of millions on TV? No?

Why, well its easy for me to see why. This ****ry and its digusting intolerances.

never had a problem with someone praying or blessing themselves before a match. Maybe they want God's protection. But what is the point of blessing yourself at a penalty?

A very, very, very good question.

And I agree with the criticisms of the Scotman in this thread too - after the last crossing non-incident I complained to a programme on Radio Ulster about their coverage of it. The media can be idiotic sometimes.
