What kind of pics are you looking for? I've got the Belgian papers from the day after the 1-1 game over there - I'm sure among the match reports there's one or two pics (probably of Luc Nilis scoring right enough!) I've got the away 'programme' Anderlecht Sports - I'd need to check to see if it has any photos from Easter Road.

These are from the next day's paper after the 1-1 draw in Brussels. If you are desperate for home pictures then get a hold of either the Hibs v Airdrie programme (19/9/92) or the Hibs v Dundee programme (26/9/92). Just checked his website and Brian Johnson who has the programme shop in Albion Road has both for a quid each. On or the other would've featured pictures from the first leg.

That caption translates into something like: "Some Scottish somewhat abused their reputation of supporters folk and peaceful."

Did it go mental over there? I've not heard of anything....?

Scoobie I was there but don't remember much about it, can't remember any bother, I think there was a small casual element but no sure. I do remember the game and all the hibees (well drunk) were crammed into a small area behind the goals. The place was jumping , when we scored we were all going mental . One of the best nights/atmosphere. Think Kano missed a chance late on which would've put us through. The game was shown live on telly over there and my mate got the hotel manager to tape it, I think I've still got the tape, I'll need to look it out and have a wee watch of it.

A memorable game played in Anderlechts new stadium which was the inspiration behind the ER development. My abiding memory was of the Anderlecht fans booing their own side at the end then giving Hibs a standing ovation. A proud moment to be a Hibby

I think you are getting a little bit mixed up with the Hibs Chairman Douglas Cromb and StraitonGate I when in true directors speak, Douglas cobbled up some nonsense that StraitonGate I was going to be based on Anderlechts Van den Stock stadium and the Hibs architects were going across to Belgium to look at the plans..

I seem to remember the Anderlecht stadium was the Astridpark, or Astrid stadium?

Scoobie, the French caption is indeed "Some Scots belied their reputation as peaceable, sociable supporters". I joined a Hibs bus in Amsterdam on the way down with my brother-in-law and a Man U mate of his.

There was a sizable casual minority on the bus and they were feckin mental, hanging off the luggage-racks, abusing the driver and generally chuckin their over-aggressive, over-active selves about annoying the real supporters. We even had to tell the Man U fan to keep his mouth shut so he didn't give away his Lancastrian roots with his accent.

Arseholes - and aye, there was the odd spot of bother here and there in the town before and after.

I just remember the Astrid thing from a conversation with a Charleroi supporter I met later in a pub, he gave me the lowdown on the 'wee team' in Brussels, very intersting it all was too.

This link shows the reason for the names:

Aye, Calum Milne kept holding it up until the booing got louder. The caged section we were in behind the goals had the casuals in there too. The nutters kept trying to rip down the wire fencing while the Belgian police kept rapping their hands with batons. And still they tried!

Was it just one section or two? I remember a girl falling and twisting her ankle. She really struggled to get out, can't remember if the police closed the gates once we were in the chicken coup, made for a magic atmosphere.
I was in the area between the corner flag and the goals.

My first taste of European football adventure, feckin loved every nano-second.

Went on the Royal Nip bus, won the draw in the pub (well, Tricky did, but share and share alike), stayed in Ostend and bused it through to Brussels for the match.Seem to recall a wee bit of bother just off the main square when the pub got a delivery of beer...the Hibbys were trying to drink the stuff before it got into the pub!

Up there easily with the best atmosphere I've experienced with Hibs...missed out on Dnipro this season, would love to have another crack at Euroo footie next season.

Which IIRC caused a pretty major square go in the "square" near the Red Light area. There was bother aplenty most of the night, with Anderlecht boys driving around in vans looking for bother, which they got IIRC. There were also some minor skirmishes in the square on the day of the game. The caption in the photo relates to what was actually happening at the time there. Table throwing, pints getting thrown back & forth etc etc. Soon sorted out by some heavily armed riot police.

Was it just one section or two? I remember a girl falling and twisting her ankle. She really struggled to get out, can't remember if the police closed the gates once we were in the chicken coup, made for a magic atmosphere.
I was in the area between the corner flag and the goals.
it was one section to begin with, but it got pretty over crowded and they opened another section

i can remember lots of trouble in the square the night before the game

....i was there on the official supporters bus...i.e.sphere travel...there was a lot of trouble the night before the game in the main square and the surrounding streets...north african types were running round with big blades looking for hibees that had turned their pub over....casuals were out in force and were even giving it tight to scarf wearers...the torino mob were kicked out of their hotel for wrecking it and had to sleep rough.....a great couple of days but many hibees let themselves down...looking at the team again...did we really have joe tortalano and calum milne on at the same time?....i remember gareth evans warming up before he came on as a sub....2,000 hibees singing..'one garath evans'....his face was a picture....i bet that was one of the highlights of his career...

Just bear faced cheek from naughty old Dougie

Funnilly and thankfully this never happenned.
The club actually made a model of the would-be Anderlecht style stadium for Straiton. And the research and surveys into the possibility of moving to Straiton (part 1) was 250,000. Remember, the campaign against Straiton # 1 by the Proclaimer fanzine called 'Frustraiton' ? The site at Straiton was and is noticeable for subsidence, and a cover of the fanzine had a picture showing the model of the stadium sliding into a crack in the earth.

As things go in threes we're due another try by our owner and minions to move us to Straiton ?

When it comes to after match singing I think nothing beats RFC Liege away 3 years before after we went out to that wonder goal in extra time. What a noise!

Your bringing back too many good bad memories. Liege was a fcukin awsome trip.
Your right about the singing after the match, remeber Mikey holding up the no Huns in Europe banner.
The Leige supporters band playing the tunes to hibs songs.
    Brilliant memories

Oh I, that was a fcukin unbelievable goal.

Not a spot of bother at the game. There was a big police presence because we were the first British side to play in Belgium since the Heysel Disaster. Every police dug ended up wearing a Hibs scarf!

I recall a very tense atmosphere the night before the game and pre-match, certainly quite a lot of aggro. Great atmosphere at the game, when Jackson scored would rank as one of my all time best moments following Hibs.

Sadly two Hibbys were also killed en-route to this game after falling out the train doors of the Edinburgh-London train.

I was in the upper stand above the pens. it was amazing looking down at the Hibees going mental when we scored. Also remember getting interviewed getting off the ferry about the two guys that where sadly killed.

    Check the first leg report.

the second [goal] by the Dutch dangerman, Peter Van Vossen.

    ...

Against a side of great skill and composure - Van Vossen and Bruno Versavel were outstanding
    The Peter Van Vossen?

Must be something about Ibrox that turns good players into crap ones when they enter hell's gates.

Aye, the Peter Van Vossen, and outwith Ivan Sproule and Arthur Duncan, he was the fastest player I've seen at Easter Road. He covered the whole pitch that night and was excellent.

Outwith his Ibrox debacle, Van Vossen was a great player and didn't deserve the abuse. OK as a hun he did deserve it for wearing that blue snot rag.

Van Vossen though was no mug. Two league championships and a Champions League medal all with Ajax before the huns. Followed by a league championship and Dutch Supercup win with Feyenoord after the huns.

I know, he was excellent at Feyenoord as a winger circa 2000-2002. There was a few of their games on our telly at that time because they did well in the uefa cup (they won it once after they put out the Huns, about the time GJP took over). I think he even got back into the Dutch national team for a while.

It was quite strange how the Scottish commentators of the games he was playing in couldn't help but going on about the miss in the OF game, as if it was the only thing he had done (or hadn't done) in his career.
