    Dylan Leaving

Seems to have been confirmed by Lennon in his post match comments. Gutted to hear the best football player at Easter Road will be leaving. We suspected this may happen and now seems to be official?

"... McGeouch is leaving so we have a bit of surgery to do."

A legend. He should have played tonight from the start.

Apparently an open secret that Mowbray has signed him, widely discussed at the POTY las Sunday, Dylan didn’t comment.

Dylan McGeouch has been a great Hibs player for four years and is rightly a club legend.
He will be very difficult to replace but replace him we must.

A member of the Hibs board told me last night they didn't know Dylan's intentions, he didn't think Dylan knew. Hibs have put a very good offer to him.

His options in Scotland are limited. He doesn't need to look far among his team mates, current and recent, to be wary of a move to England. Liam is doing Bari though!

Dylan loves it here and wanted to stay but sadly terms couldn't be agreed.

I love Dylan to bits but think he'll struggle with his injuries. At least with Hibs if fit he has a 99% chance of playing. I think his mask was something to do with him not starting last night.

It’s oh so typical of Dylan McGeouch’s Hibs career that due to injury he was unavailable to start our two biggest games of the season. Such is his quality and influence on the team that we ultimately couldn’t cope without him and picked up 1 point from 6.

He will be hard to replace, but replace him we must. We need to find another deep playmaker type who can keep the midfield ticking nicely. Whittaker isn’t a long term answer there, Bartley isn’t that type of player, Slivka might be? If not we need to sign someone to fill the role.

For hibs to move forward, we need to make space for new stars to emerge and come into the team.

Players leaving needn’t be seen as a negative; it can be an opportunity for the team to evolve and improve.

I agree, but losing the excellent Dylan McGeouch for nothing is.

Who made that decision though? If he's fit enough to play 50 minutes, he's fit enough to play 90. Big error, either from Lennon keeping him safe, or from Dylan not feeling 100% confident.

We've got Swanson, I expect he'll have a big role next season.

Lennon doesn't think so. Plus, he's a completely different player in a completely different role and couldn't play the role Dylan.

    Mallan will be Dylan's replacement.

Very good question. I’m sure I read that Lennon said it was down to Dylan and how comfortable he felt wearing the mask. His fitness surely can’t have been an issue, so could only have been a confidence thing. Maybe he didn’t want to risk a serious injury, jeopardising his move in the summer...

My thoughts. Should have started at Tynecastle and Aberdeen. He's been our best player FFS.

I think human nature makes that very possible. As much as he's been a terrific servant to Hibs, effectively he's taking a punt on being unemployed next month. He'll be protecting his interests whilst wanting to go out on a high, hopefully by starting against, and horsing the hun.

Totally agree. In no way a criticism of Dylan either, just the way football is now.

I have to say I'm a bit upset with Dylan choosing not to play in the two biggest games of our season. They had the mask in time for the Killie game and Dylan wasn't comfortable. I'm pretty sure a Darren McGregor or Lewis Stevenson play against Aberdeen and Hearts. Lennon mentioned at the start of the season that Dylan's injury problems are somewhat physiological, this pretty much proves it. We know he's one of the best players in the team and so will his team mates. Not blaming him or anyone for not finishing second, just think he could have been the difference in those two games.

The mask he now has didn't come till after Killie. He went down to London for it and it was sent from Europe. There was a poorer version before Killie but he didn't feel comfortable in it. They sent him down to London after that.

I pretty much expected him to miss the Killie game, I thought he could have stepped up and played the next two. I'm sure if he went to Lennon and said I'm good to go, play me, he'd have been the first name on the sheet.

I don’t really blame any man with his injury record for being overcautious.

We’ve coped well without him in the best, the team should have still been good enough to win the last two games.

I wonder how many of the 7? Games we have lost Dylan has started in. Actually I know the answer I’ll post it tonight.

Hibs ordering the mask from Europe and having him go to London to get it fitted, shows how desperate Lennon and the club wanted him to play. The bottom line is Dylan chose not to play the two biggest games of the season.

Or Neil Lennon chose for him, he came on as sub both times, although he looked very uncomfortable mask with his mask at Aberdeen, he kept fiddling with it.

My guess is 5 - I don’t think he started at home V St. Johnstone, and of course Wednesday. But I’m sure he started in defeats against Hamilton, Celtic, Rangers & twice against Aberdeen.

In a similar vain, how many games have we won when Dylan hasn’t stated this season?
We wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do, and we wanna get loaded, and we wanna have a good time... That's what we're gonna do

He still finished the Celtic game, I think it's madness that we're criticising him for not playing with a broken bone in his face ffs.

Just because a mask was there, doesn't mean it was easy to play. He might not be able to play to his ability wearing it.

If he had played and nothing changed, we'd be up in arms over us playing a player who clearly wasn't comfy or up to scratch.

    Sakes eh

Or Neil Lennon chose for him, he came on as sub both times, although he looked very uncomfortable mask with his mask at Aberdeen, he kept fiddling with it.
And not happy a couple of times he had to head the ball

We have players in the squad that would have p,ayes through that injury with the mask on. Dylan's just not one of them. At the end of the day I get he has to look out for himself. But as a fan, I'm more interested in the team than any one individual.

Again... Just because you CAN play, doesn't mean you should.
If he's less effective wearing a mask, then he's not the same player.

Just easier for you to wanna accuse him if not being committed etc. Something he's never shown while here.

Not accusing him of anything, just disappointed he chose not to play. Let's not forget Lennon more or less said the same thing about Dylan and injuries at the start of the campaign.

He said alot of his injuries are in his head... This one is literally on his face. It's the definition of physical, not mental.
And Dylan got specialist help to sort out his injury issues, which is what led to him playing more this season.

    Selective facts.

Not sure what his exact injury is but if he's wearing one if those masks it suggests to me a dislocation of the zygomatic bones in the face, commonly referred to as a fractured cheekbone (although it's not actually broken but dislodged). It's easily repaired but is still very painful. So, much like toothache, the pain will preoccupy the mind as well as looking to protect the injury site so he rightly should be taking it easy as opposed to playing a match against an overly physical opponent where the damage could be made worse.
    Game's rigged, why bother?

So what was the point in getting him two masks? First one didn't feel right, then the club get a special made one from Europe and send him to London. Lennon obviously wanted him to play or he wouldn't have gone to all that trouble. Dylan didn't want to play, simple as that.

Just cause it didn't work doesn't mean it wasn't worth trying.. How would you know otherwise?

All I'm saying is that I was disappointed Dylan didn't start the two biggest games of the season. Enjoy your night out, chill

There are different degrees of this injury ranging from you can hardly notice it and it heals itself to if you sneeze have a wee plate ready to catch your eyeball as it pops out!

None of us out here know how bad the injury was or what he's been told by his surgeon.

I've had this injury and was advised not to eat so much as a crusty roll for 6 weeks never mind take part in sport!

I had a similar injury a few years ago (blowout fracture of the eye socket) combined with a fractured cheekbone and broken nose. I was out for about 3 months and for the first 6 weeks I looked like I’d gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson and needed a titanium plate fitted. To be playing at all a couple of weeks after suffering a fractured cheekbone is impressive in itself and anyone doubting his courage doesn’t know what they’re talking about
