Just Back and Jamie will need to count sheep tonight if he's to get any sleep...

A mighty 32 years ago (yes, really) the Housemartins sang "It's sheep we're up against". Today it rang out, pre-match in a self-effacing piss take by the home side. For younger readers, The Housemartins were Fat Boy Slim and his pals when they had acne. For the entire duration of the post-split fixtures it is indeed Sheep we are up against, too.

Today saw us go head to head with them in a game we couldn't afford to lose. Lob them 3 easy points, like we did in December, and 2nd place would be out of reach, draw and it would keep it alive, win and we would go into pole position...with everything in our own hands. Hibs fans flocked to Pittodrie to back their team. Trains, planes and automobiles made their way to the Sheep Pen. Coaches, too. Well, some of them. Stories of bus cancellations were followed by at least one coach being pulled over by police in Angus...blue lights aflashing. It's been a while since so many people wanted to see Sheep being put in their place. Not since the last final of One Man and his Dog, anyway.

I pen this Just Back having been on the road since the final whistle and I'm aware most of you will have by now seem the game on BBC Heuchter Teuchter. I make no apologies for calling it only as I saw it at the game. That's the point of Just Back and I don't care if you've all now seen the contentious moments on slow motion replay from every different camera angle, I reserve the right to tell the Black Sheep in the middle what I think based on the feelings in the stand at the time...rightly, wrongly or somewhere in between. So on to the game...

Hibs started with a purpose, with Super drawing an early caution for OConnor after a driving run through the middle. Then Martin Boyle tormented Mark Reynolds on the right and despatched a shot just across the face of Joe the Goalie's goal.

Then, in a blistering start, we were award a penalty kick after Steven Whittake played a fabulous ball into the box for McLaren who was clearly fouled by Reynolds. Beaton pointed to the spot, Jamie stepped up to take the kick but his effort was easily stopped by the home keeper.

It felt like a blow to us and a lift for the Dons. They then had a shot from May and Shinnie come close.

The Kelvin Diver was starting to try and make things happen but unfortunately for him, The Legend that is Lewis was more than a match for all his wriggling, running and falling over.

McLaren came close with a header he could have maybe done better with. Then McGregor cleared from within the 6 yard box when McKenna looked likely to score. Not long after, Niall McGinn had the sweetie rustling home support out their pens when he hit the woodwork with a shot from distance.

0-0 at half time but how that was the case only McLaren knows...

The 2nd half wasn't quite as exciting.

Highlights included John McGinn fending off challenges from what seemed like half the hone side before unleashing a Super shot that Lewis somehow got at full stretch.

The main chance in the second half came to Kamberi who seemed certain to score with a front post effort but again the giant keeper prevailed.

    The Players
Marciano clean sheet and a bizarre Harlem Globetrotters moment when he plucked the ball from the air with one hand and tucked it under his arm

Whittaker - I dont care what anyone thinks, he had a good game Hanlon - unlucky to be cautioned, composed afternoon
McGinn - battered all afternoon but he was more Super today than last week
Stevenson - running out of superlatives for him. Hope he returned the Kelvin Diver from his back pocket before getting on the team bus
Boyle - started well but Reynolds soon got a measure of him
Maclaren - he will have nightmares about the missed penalty Kamberi, - a rough and tough afternoon and he could have bagged the winner late on
    Allan - some dangerous stuff
    McGregor - rock solid
Ambrose - pipe and slippers central.
Barker - we never really released him behind their defence
    Zorro- flashes of brilliance

Beaton - standard outing by him, flurries of cards followed by flurries of odd decisions and no reciprocal cards.

Hibs support- over 2000 of us, loud and proud whilst the home fans rustled their sweetie papers

Next up - we know what and we know what is needed.

Man of The Match - could be any from Efe to SJM to Paul to Whittaker to...but I can't see past the Legend. He gets better and better. If that were possible. And I don't give a sheep $#@! in SheepVille if it doesn't get approval from the television jury. He was braw.

Thanks for the report @SKII. Having watched it on the box I concur with what you have written. Do you think we should have had another pen in the dying seconds when Boyler was wrestled to the ground in the box? I can't quite make my mind up about that one. Good choice for MOTM

You didn't include Flo in your summing up

Where we were it wasn't easy to see whether Boyle ought to have been given a pen.
Good spot re Flo - that's what happens when you drive for 7 hours and have to try and write these at this time of night. Knackered. I thought I had. I'll be glad to hang up the chunky crayon on Wednesday night. It's been a long season Just Back wise...

Indeed so - and I for one have appreciated them all.

I'd have taken 7 points from 9 from these first 3 fixtures.

Unfortunately, I'll be in the pub on Wednesday, but we know what we have to do. 6 from 6 from the remaining two.

    A thousand apologies

It must be difficult to watch the game and try to enjoy it while in the back of your mind you know you have to file away moments to relate to later on. The efforts of yourself and all the others that muck in is greatly appreciated at the Dub Foundation

Good write up, wouldn't disagree with anything. Jamie missed another great chance shortly after pen, Think it was a ball from whits or super? He'll be a tad pissed off tonight I think.
just in house now. Long journey but a great point for us.
Missed the pen, was just coming up stairs when it was taken, feckin roadworks and my driving are crap.
Anyway on way back down road we were listening to off the ball or whatever its called and a sheep mailed in about how much protection SJM gets. The three of us just looked at each other. Thought he was fouled constantly and hardly got a foul.
Great point, roll on Wednesday, TV for me on Wednesday.

Superb point and nothing to fear from these sheepsha**ers...

Going back to our penalty, the goalie clearly moved before the ball was hit, he was about a yard off his line. I know they never apply that rule these days but hey......

'That's championship form' from Lenny's interview. It is and it's brilliant - hard to keep up all season though!

Deffo a penalty for us later on in fact was more the case than one that was awarded!

    Thank You.

Good summary, the Sheeps keeper was at least two yards off his line for the penalty and at 6ft6 he’s always gonna save it that far out.

Cheers for the report appreciated as always. We maybe could’ve won but not getting beat was important yesterday! I’ll happily take 13 points from 15 post split...not too much to ask for. Interesting fact I heard today and couldn’t quite believe, SJM is the most booked player in the league with 15 yellow cards this season!

I've had the benefit now of seeing the incident in isolation and it was a stonewall penalty. Not only did the Sheepie forcibly push him to the ground with one hand, he had the other one pushing Squirrels face.
