    2nd Place?

Most of us would have taken top 4 or even top 6 at start of the season. Now we're 4 games away from the Runners Up spot with momentum behind us and confidence running through the team and support.

Runners up got £2.1m last year. That was £0.5m more than 4th place.

Turnbull's Tornadoes did it twice in 74 & 75. That was 43 years ago. Mowbray managed a 3rd place.

Who thinks we'll get 2nd spot? Anything less now wouldnt be a dissapointment. More of a missed opportunity to create a bit of history.

I’d like 2nd but think we’ll get 3rd behind the Huns, can’t see Aberdeen beating them or Celtic....

It’s in our hands. There are a lot of permutations as to how it could unfold, but if we keep winning then we’ll finish 2nd.
We wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do, and we wanna get loaded, and we wanna have a good time... That's what we're gonna do

I think it's ours to take.
    Hunco imploding from all angles
Aberdeen looking set to lose their way.

We've got 3 points that neither of them will achieve in this split. It's advantage Hibs.

If we are playing the Huns for second on the last day, I'll be delighted!

This might be getting carried away but cannae help thinking if we'd had Allan, Kamberi & McLaren instead of Stokes & Murray at start of the season we'd be breathing down Celtc's neck for the title and a Champions League spot.

I think that as well. I hope we keep those three, along with Barker, for next season.

    Weird.

I'll be a wee bit disappointed if we don't get 2nd while at the same time delighted we've done so well in the league and played good football along the way.

dont want to bogey this but ...

I think we are playing the best fitbaw of any team in the league, and its possible that we can take at least 10 points from the remaining 4 games.
If we do then 2nd is ours.

    Last 4 games:

Huns: still trying to stop my eyes bleading from yesterdays game. They wont beat Celtc, and probably draw with SSBs
    Max 4-6 points from 12

SSBs: have taken the mantle of 'Big Game Bottlers' from Hibs. Up'n'doon like a hoors drawers. Between us and them for 2nd. Last matchday will be us v Huns, SDBs v SSBs. If its still on on that day I would take us finish 2nd.
    Max 6-7 points from 12

Aberdeen need to beat Hibs at Pittodrie (and potentially win Friday coming too).

Aye it could be a factor, but things like chucking away a two goal lead against Motherwell and only taking 2 points off St. Johnstone are equally as vital.

I love Stokes but getting rid of Stokes and bringing in Allan, Kamberi and Maclaren changed our season. Before these changes we struggled to score more than 1 a game. I agree with you completely. If we can keep these 3 and replace McGinn and Mcgeough properly then we will be a force next season!!

Whoever said we'd be challenging for the title had we not thrown away silly points is absolutely right. Even a cursory glance would tell you that second spot would be sewn up already, and our win on Saturday would have had a whole other meaning.

    That said:

As things stand, I don't think Celtic will lose again and that can only be good for us. Aberdeen got a good game against Kilmarnock, where I might not have expected them to win, due to some key Killie players being out; other teams might not be so lucky, and Kilmarnock aren't a bad team at all. They're playing well, have a lot of belief, and will fancy beating anyone.

'Rangers' might have just beaten Hearts, but it was as abject a Hearts performance as I can recall. They were $#@!ing terrible and, as Andy Walker pointed out, made absolutely no attempt to win the game. We, on the other hand, will get at 'Rangers' and I think we're a better team so I fancy it against them. Despite that, it would be deeply naïve to think Levein won't be desperate to dent Hibs run in and will deploy the most stuff, physical and ugly tactics in order to steal points from us.

Points-wise, not much changed this weekend past. The coming weekend may end up being a lot more instructive, as 'Rangers' are largely certain to lose while I fancy us and Aberdeen to win. At that point, the pressure will start piling onto a 'Rangers' team that's desperate not to be shoved out of European football and I think their bottle will crash.

The whole of Scottish football wants those $#@!s to die. Even if Aberdeen pip us to second, I'd still be desperate to see us above 'Rangers'.

Overall, I'll be disappointed if we don't nab second. I genuinely think we're now the second best side in the league, and it'd be an opportunity missed if we didn't end up capitalising on it, IMHO.

Scott Brown (celtc) is saying on the wireless news saying we're the second best team and should end up second in the league, or some such $#@!e!

I suspect it's more a dig at sevco than any recognition of our wonderfulness.

disagree - we driven them close all season - we've taken equal points off of them this season as they have off of us.

He has barely broken sweat in games versus huns and dons.

    decent compliment i'd say

You never know if Celtic would have upped it if they had a challenger, but, cant complain with the outcome so far.

The post new year league charge has been nothing short of incredible:

It's the first time in a long time we have had a proactive January with good quality signings that addressed problems in the squad. Most Jan's in my lifetime have been patchwork projects made up of duds, journeymen and loans. Windows like that must hump any kind of dressing room feel-good factor.

Indeed and we've witnessed the antithesis of that with decent January signings. Lenny gets oodles of credit for that.

    We are a changed club....forever.

21st May 2016 changed Hibernian and we are not going to go back to where we were before IMO.
The other big factor which has changed our club for good is the long overdue restructuring of the club which took place in the Spring of 2014 just prior to relegation.
Leeann Dempster was a big part of that but by no means the only factor.
We had to win the Scottish Cup to get the monkey off our backs and to release the vast potential this club always had. We made the most of that win but we won't stop there.
I think we will win another trophy soon. Even if we don't make second spot this season it has been a memorable campaign.
As I said at the start Hibs are a changed club now. We have set a standard and the challenge in the years to come will be to maintain that standard and improve on it.
We are well equipped for that challenge even if personnel leave he club as they are bound to eventually. We are now a very professional and well run outfit both on and off the park and we will fear no-one from now on.

Agreed. Why the way we went out this year's Scottish Cup pissed me off. Should be us facing Celtic in the final....

Didn’t do ourselves justice in that game at all, went out with a whimper not helped by the Stokes situation in build-up. Trust me to pick our worst performance of the season to head back to Edinburgh for! The one black mark in an outstanding campaign.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the events in Portugal leading up to that game had a huge effect on the teams performance that day. It had clearly affected morale and team unity and on top of all that it left us in a situation where we had to play a promising young laddie up front on his own in a big cup derby at Tynecastle. Hearts have had a bad season but they were desperate to win that game and put us out the cup. Despite everything it has to be said they are very strong at home and don't lose at Tynie very often. Hibs will have to produce a big performance in a couple of weeks time to win there.

    Point of order ;-)

That point is that we've gained 1 more point away from home than they have taken at home.

    Hibs away, 29 points.
    gunts home, 28 points.

They're not that invincible at home.
