    Close the gap on celtic

    Can we do it?

Can we do it next season?

What areas do we need to strengthen in the team?

I think - for us - the key might be in the academy, that’s where we can have our strength in depth.

If we got close to celtc they'd open the purse strings next January and blow us out the water, or GFA would send us all off! Celtc have been tucking away millions each year over the last 5 while they've had no real challenge.

Even without their Euromillions win each season they have 3 times our record attendances every week.

Our best is getting a European slot and doing better each season. Muchos away days mi amigos!

Refereeing decisions over the next few weeks, to protect the other cheek, will be interesting to say the least!

Celtic are bigger, wealthier and so far ahead of the rest of the teams in the top flight on and off the pitch that I honestly see them breaking the world record for consecutive League Championship wins. Their 100% guaranteed Champions League or Europa League entry every year will continue to grow their wealth and pay the wages for players which no other club in Scotland could afford. Unfortunately the only club with the potential to stop this monopoly continuing are the Rangers and they are still miles behind them at the moment. The next tier of clubs in terms of size and status, Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen just don't have the resources to mount any sort of serious challenge to Celtic...however our ambition has to be to at least try to close the gap and offer some kind of threat. The only possibility for a Leicester City situation happening is for Celtic to have their worst season for decades and Hibs to have their best...I would love to see it as would we all but the chances of that happening in Scotland are very slim IMO. In the next few years realistically what I do want to see Hibs replacing Aberdeen as year after year the biggest challengers in Scottish football to the Old Firm.

Our best chance of success is through regular qualification for Europe and getting to the group stages. A lot of money to be made from that. Our other big chance of success is of course in domestic cup competitions and after the joy of May 2016 I want to see Hibs parading silverware again soon and thereafter on a much more regular basis than we have had in our lifetimes. I also agree with Jack that our excellent Youth Academy should continue to be a big priority for us. If we can provide some top class players through that to get into our first team and thrive then it's doing it's job. They can then be sold on for big money at some future period. This is the only way forward for clubs like ours.

Yeah, deffo agree ref Celtic/Rangers, we simply can’t compete with the resources that both of them have however, between us Hearts and Aberdeen we are now pushing to better the both of them in the next few seasons. The key factor is pulling out all the stops to keep Neil Lennon and his back room team at Hibs for the foreseeable future. This upcoming pre-season is gonna be massive for us, ST through the roof, a settled management ok we are going to loose a few players but I’m pretty confident that NL will get what he wants in terms of recruitment. Great times ahead 👍🏻

I think keeping Neil Lennon, Leeann Dempster and George Craig is key to us challenging in the next couple of years. When Neil joined us two years ago I'd be surprised if he thought he would be with us beyond a couple of years. It's looking likely that Neil will stay with us longer than Tony Mowbray or Alan Stubbs did. As ever the key to next season's challenge will be recruitment. This is the area for me where Leeann and George has had most success. Our budget is similar to that of Aberdeen and the Gunts. Thankfully the Gunts have had a shambolic recruitment strategy. Should they get theirs right then they'll give us much more of a challenge. It's important we continue to get ours right (Though last summer did we?) and allow talented youngsters like Porteous and Shaw get in.

The dominance of Celtic is a given however there is one thing that if we improved would make a marked difference. If we could be more consistent against he lesser sides we would have a more points and, be closer to Celtic numerically. Again a big if.......

Killie picked up almost as many points as celtic since Clarke arrived...it is not beyond the realms of possibility for us to do it as well...however, yeh they would just spend big. Suppose we cant complain as we outspend half the teams in the league as well, though by nowhere as much

If we could add a 30 goal striker to what we already have , we maybe could threaten a little. But if we did, by hook or crook they weaken us for sure.

I've always said it's impossible to catch them and win the league. That changed a couple of years ago when Leicester won the league. Anything is possible.

Know what you’re saying but the TV money in England is a massive leveller, the smaller clubs no longer need to part with their prized assets straight away when the big guns come calling. Hence why Vardy & Mahrez are still at the foxes. Leicester winning the league was still an amazing achievement though.

It's a tough one. Ideally it would have been great to keep the core of the team however this summer we face the prospect of losing both SJM and Dylan which is like major heart surgery for our team. I really hope we've identified two suitable replacements and not just on the cheap as we've done in years gone by prior to Leeann arriving.

So our shopping list... potentially 2-3 midfielders, a goalkeeper, x2 wingers (someone to replace Brandon and another to come off the bench) x2 strikers and a fullback?

We may not have better individual players for each position - nor the same depth of squad - but in the 2nd half of this season we've been a better team. I dont know the stats so far but we may even rack up more points in 2nd half of the season than Celtic.

Aberdeen have fancied their chances in previous seasons so why not us? If we could keep this squad intact we could give them all a run at the top of the league next season. SJM and Dylan will definitely be offski so thats not gonna happen which is disappointing. Would love to have seen what this current team could do with just 2-3 quality additions.

Neil Lennon doesnt seem to have the mindset to settle for being also rans. He'll be thinking ahead wondering what he needs to do to challenge at the top next season. He'll need to change our fans mentality of acceptance we cant challenge the Weegies. Best way to do that is to split the $#@!ers this season to show that the Hun's wealth cant beat a strong team that believes in itself.

From interviews with NL it doesn't sound like Hibs will let SJM wind down his contract and leave for nothing. It's unlikely he'll sign a new contract so the indications are he'll be sold.

According to some press they reckon Dylan is away.

How can they sell him when the window isn't open?

His contract runs out before the next window doesn't it?

    Or am I confused again...........
