    Aileen Paterson

If you are a parent of an Edinburgh child - now or in the last few decades - you will doubtless be aware of Maisie from Morningside. Even if you don't have kids you will have see the wee cat on the sides of No23 and No5 buses.

She was the brainchild of Aileen Paterson who wrote and illustrated the books for decades, putting everyday Edinburgh in print across the globe. Sadly, she passed away recently, with her demise being made public yesterday. It's a sad loss. She has lived in my street for decades and whilst a very private lady she was always friendly.

Never mind JK, Edinburgh lost its most relevant local children's author.

Writing for kids is a great gift and the Maisie books are brilliant. Very sorry to hear of her death.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me it would defeat the purpose .... (George Carlin)

Sad loss, loved the Maisie books (apart from that hearts cant Archie) - used to often see her cutting about Abbeyhill back in the day.
