Zlatan - the best out and out striker in last 30 years?

I'm guessing 1875 saw him a fair few times for Barca. Anyone else see this guy much and what do you think?

Nearly 20 years ago I got taken to Malmo game by one of my great friends who I was visiting in Sweden. He told me they had this amazing kid playing for them. Sure enough he stood out in what was a second division team. Some years later I was in Barcelona for his debut there and again he scored. Today he arrived in my new home town and in 20 minutes proved once again that he has been a unique talent in the modern game. The english never rated him because he didn't play in the most expensive league in the world for so many years and comes across as a bit of a big head. The difference between him and the big heads that made up the 'golden generation' of 3 lions stars is that he has constantly shown he is world class every single season of his career.

Here's his first goal today. The ball sits up perfectly for him but, firstly he was following the play like a true professional, and secondly he strikes it in a way that almost no other player would manage in a real game. His movement for his winner during injury time was also what makes him such a prized asset (yes technically he was offside).

His 40 yard overhead kick v England is probably the most amazing goal I’ve ever seen. Utterly ridiculous. He might be the only player on the planet capable of producing, or even attempting that I reckon.

As you say he’s done it consistently at ALL the top European leagues bar the Bundesliga. That said if you had to pick one striker to lead the line over the past 30 years not sure it’d be him..

He's definitely up there as one of the all time greatest forwards of his generation. Strong, skillful and knows how to finish.

For me, Marco Van Basten is the greatest out and out striker of my lifetime...a centre forward with absolutely no weakness to his game whatsoever.

Zlatan is brilliant, but Marco was the best as far as I am concerned.

Good call. Wonder if MVB would have kept up his phenomenal record into his 30s if he hadn't got injured?

I guess other players would be the people to answer that. Is he able to bring out the best in his teammates or is it just the Zlatan show. I only saw him live twice and I think to really gauge a player you need to see them live a lot so you can see their off the ball contributions and see if they constantly moan at their team and/or sulk off the ball a lot.

The Barcelona period for Z fascinates me because they had so many amazing players at the time, he was an instant hit with the fans but then he so quickly fell out with the manager and left. Was that because he isn't a team player and actually detracts from a really good team?

For me, the best out and out striker of the last 30yrs was Zlatan’s idol - the real Ronaldo. Some horrific injuries to contend with and he didn’t live the life but still unplayable for the majority of his career.

Ravanelli and Vialli at Juventus were a phenomenal striking partnership
    Game's rigged, why bother?

Ronaldo was the greatest number 9 of the past 20 odd years in my opinion.

Zlatan has an audacity about him that sets him apart from anyone else currently playing, it’s hard not to enjoy what he does. Some of the outrageous goals he’s scored could have been done by other players, but the difference is that Zlatan actually does it rather than taking a safer option.

Zlatan is the worlds best self publicist , after Bendtner.

Van Basten the greatest for me. What that guy achieved in the short time he was playing was incredible. The likes of Ibra get way more protection nowadays. Was the tackle from behind rule not pretty much brought in because of the treatment Van Basten got?
