    Police In Scotland

The only level of presence I experience is their ridiculous many Twitter accounts. Good to follow for entertainment purposes and for getting your adrenalin pumping.

Making much recently nationally of confiscating alcohol from those low life football sorts. So pleased were Police Scotland of their success they got some photographs taken of the alcohol destroyed and proudly tweeted the evidence.

And locally here in the East of Edinburgh proudly Tweeting their police presence on some local community run. All again with photographic evidence.

Yesterday the SNP were proudly Tweeting how they've increased police numbers by blah blah blah. Not just a dig at the SNP as they all do it. Labour, Tories and Lib Dems all give us the same political bollocks.

However, aside from the Police Scotland PR bollocks and the political bollocks what's the real Police Scotland experience in the real world?

Here in the East side of Edinburgh a family member had their house burgled on Friday. Police were called and Police said they'd be around on Monday. So that's the realities of Police Scotland 2018. If your house is burgled they'll be around 72 hours later....

Personally I'd have told them not to bother. I guess for insurance purposes or whatever their visit was required. However, criminals must now know that they pretty much have free reign to burgle property knowing they'll never be caught.

I think the Police have given up on such criminal activities and I expect they'll further focus on Tweeting such bollocks on those football fans etc etc.

    Your experience with Police Scotland?

Nobody wants to pay more tax to fund a bigger force. It’s an ever decreasing circle and we’re driving it.

Maybe if we stopped all the tax avoidance schemes and trusts etc that the rich use we wouldnt need to, tens of billions of £’s a year in tax avoidance a year, 100 times more than benef fraud... but guess where all the funding goes to stop it, 10 times more staff to combat benefit fraud than tax dodgers.... go figure... luckily the EU is clamping down on tax avoidance schemes in March 2019.... oh wait a minute....

I think they have to be seen as the good guys in the community cracking down on low level crime that gets on everyone's tits. Hence they run about the community and show they've nicked the neds booze!

I suppose they'll say and @Beagle might agree they're never going to catch a burglar red handed or within hours of the act so they gather intelligence and maybe catch them later.

I got stopped in Glasgow for running a red light. I was convinced I didn't but listening to them and nodding at the right time avoided a ticket. I now run an in cab video! That's my lot with the police!

I suppose they are pretty thin on the ground so targeting really dangerous football fans is a good use of their time, more likely overtime.

What annoys me most about them is even when they're about and see low level crime, outwith football, they're most likely to totally ignore it - not even a word in your shell like mate!

They're looking for an easy life until they can collect their pension. Housebreakers unlikely to be caught, here's an insurance claim ref number. Phone 999 when somebody is in danger of being murdered and it takes them all night to get the street you're in, if it even shows up on the map in their centralised call centre. Look at your phone when stopped at traffic lights and it's like something out of The Sweeney. Generally find them to be ok at the football and most of them can even take a joke nowadays.

Was woken up about 2 years ago around 4am with the sound of someone trying to break down the door to my flat. Luckily its an old solid wood door but it went on for maybe 30 mins. Didnt want to open the door as f*ck knows whos out there and if they have a weapon. Phoned the police straight away and they showed up 5 hours later.

After about 30 mins of trying, luckily whoever was trying to get in went away as no doubt i would get in trouble for wrongful use of my 7 iron.

To me Scotland seems generally more into rules, regulation and a feeling of 'order' than down south and I suppose that figures in police behaviour. Couple of years ago I went to see Hibs play in Falkirk and from the police presence you'd have thought West Ham were playing Millwall at Birmingham City's ground. And I'm sure the enormous numbers patrolling had nothing to do with Christmas coming up and all the expenses associated with it...

The few I know socially (admittedly not well) are quite nice but their colleagues who I've met through them are all pretty dreadful tbh.

Having a centralised force also seems odd to me in such a geographically large and diverse country but I can't pretend I know much about it.
    so what do I know

You should have said the boy was shooting at your door - they'd have been round in minutes.

Got done when I was four cars back from the lights at Xmas two years ago for the same thing, even with the handbreak on - witness in car too.
Lifted a ringing phone from beyond the gearstick and putting in my top pocket - cow was faster out the unmarked car than Usain Bolt. Would I have been done if it was my iPod / Kit Kat / chewing gum? Lot of $#@!e.

But what the hell? Harmless targets and box ticking exercise for them now instead of doing real police work.

Was there really a time when the polis were better? As far as I remember they’ve always been fannies.

That's true but that they've been given more petty crime to target they've increased their fannyiness?

Doesn't even come close to how mental the real job is. I've actually been in contact with Joe Hullait the Scot Squad creator to offer him some ideas. He reckons some of the stuff that I was suggesting was too unbelievable for public viewing, even though it really happened 😂
