    Blue moon

Blue blood moon due on Wednesday night but it's already showing things are afoot in the sky tonight. Amazing blue halo around the edges of the moon this evening. Hopefully it will be a clear night at ER on Wednesday.

Shame we don't get the eclipse too, 3 lunar events all in one night.

My understanding was that the one thing it won't be is blue, despite the name which just means there's been two full moons in a calendar month.

Looks normal to me, possibly a bit bigger and brighter than usual but that might just be the 🍷.

There is more than one astronomical definition of a blue moon. Some are actually blue. It's to do with gas and dust composition at the time.

Last night wasn't the blue moon itself but with the orbital path bringing it closer ahead of Wednesday there was an opportunity to spot the blue halo phenomenon (seen by me, 1875 and others). Shame the weather forecast is for cloud the next couple of days

Blue moon, super moon and an eclipse in one week. Pretty unusual. Even by once in a blue moon standard

Interesting, wish I'd seen that halo, presumably I was too late.

Seems that an actual blue moon is caused by volcanoes, forest fires and the like so they really are once in a blue moon.

BBC weather says it's going to clear around 10/11 pm on Wed. Could be perfect for a post ER walk home.

There are countless oral interpretations of Blue Moon, however scientists after intense research since it first materialising in the 1930's somewhere over the USA have concluded that the brightest and best was in 1961.........
