    Matulevicius to leave...

    As widely predicted.

Hibs must certainly be looking at bringing a forward in during January.

Costly mistake. You wonder how our much self hyped Dempster abd Craig structure allowed this to happen

    Matulevicius to leave...

I wonder what it was. He obviously has ability. Attitude? Language barrier?

You have to trust the decision I guess. On the face of it he just didn't seem to have enough game time. I 'd have liked to have seen him rough up some of the centre-halfs we encounter in this league.

They can’t all be winners. Since LD came in we have signed SJM, Dylan, Boyle, Gray, Daz, Efe, Bartley... pretty much every player other than Stevenson and Hanlon that we have enjoyed watching since the dark days of Terry Butcher. You’ll get the occasional Dja Djédjé, Feruz or Matu. The good far outweigh the duds though.

Always a bit dicey bringing foreign players into Scottish football when they are not exactly top of the range in their field. Hibs will have done plenty research and done reports galore on Matelavicous before we signed him, but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out. This happens at the level clubs like ours operate in. Thankfully we get more right than wrong these days.

Absolute nap we will be bringing in at least one and hopefully two strikers during January. We were already one striker down even with big Dave still there, but his departure frees up another space. For me we need a younger version of Grant Holt and a decent penalty box striker...unless he is going to use Oli Shaw more regularly.

Not every signing works out - obviously something just didn’t click for the big man, but at least the club have acted fast to move him on so we can get a replacement.
We wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do, and we wanna get loaded, and we wanna have a good time... That's what we're gonna do

If you sign 10 players, one will be your best one one will be your worst one. No dramas. Sometimes it’s just down to being in the right place at the right time.

I always felt this was a weird one. He was signed when a good few of us were concerned in the summer that signings were slow.

Signings have improved but still some bad deals. Finnish keeper veratainnen paid very quickly into three deal. Two fullback signed under Stubbs the Welsh guy and the left back that played for scumbos. Feruz and Kennedy weren't a success.

Thought he was more a back up or for games where we needed a strikers to get stuck into defenders. His goal to game ratio previously was poor. We haven't exactly been strong up front this season all things considered so hopefully this clears the path for more direct competition and not just a back up.

Good luck to the big guy.

Despite what Lennon said he was obviously brought in to help Slivka. Which he might not have needed in the end.

Nothing wrong with it. He just wasn't for us.

Odd signing... & who do we go for now?

Always looked a slightly odd signing. I'd be confident there were a fair few big target men above Big Dave on the wish list, but we didn't get them. We're Hibs. We're not often going to get finished article or total package players. I'd be reasonably sure he'd been pencilled in a fair way down that wish list for a while. I'd always rather go for a Nordic/Baltic or maybe Slavic big man. One from a warmer country, in which hatchet men may abound but in which the pace of the game is slower and the general physicality of the Scottish Premier is absent, often need time to adjust.
We signed Big Dave when we looked to be struggling for strikers. The Stokes deal seemed to be floundering. Murray was viewed as borderline 1st XI calibre at best and isn't a line leader. If he's only on £1,500, it was a reasonable punt in the circumstances. We signed him before Slivka and to suggest we brought Big Dave to the Club as the equivalent of a sheep or goat that some champion racehorses have in their box as a companion is laughable. Slivka was in Italy and/or out on loan for 4 years and it's not as if there's a shortage of Lithuanians or places Lithuanian food/drink can be bought in Edinburgh.
It was strange that he appeared in the notebooks. Presumably he registered on the Lennon/Hibs/Western radar when he was at Pandurii in Romania. It seems they had some typically dubious "investment" from typically dubious "businessmen" that got them to 2nd in the league and won the cup in a few seasons as contenders. Drubbed an Estonian outfit and got past Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Braga to make the Europa League groups, in the season we played some bunch from Sweden. Only got a couple of points from Pacos Ferreira there, finding Fiorentina and Dnepropetrovsk too good. Big Dave was a 1-in-3 striker there, which is OK for a big #9. Backers at Pandurii got into a bit of trouble and they've slid back down. His first Polish venture was with a club getting relegated and who went bust within two years; his loan at his second Polish outfit was again at a club on its way to the second division, so a poor return was excusable. A few strange short-term gigs of late says more about his agent than it does about Big Dave.
I think he signed between the Montrose and Ross games, so maybe strange that he didn't go straight in for one of the League Cup matches. Strange he wasn't given more game time, but duff signings happen. As I say, we are in a position where we have to take a punt on questionable recruitment decisions now and again.
The awkward question is where do we get a gorilla for the #9 shirt now? Assuming we want one. I don't see any likely candidates in the Premier or Championship. I don't see any Oop North in the lower English leagues.
I honestly think we've missed a trick with McMillan going from Dundalk to St.Johnstone. Not a gorilla, but a feisty, awkward barsteward and I think he'll score goals in the Scittish Premier. Couldn't see how he'd come over. Did a proper degree (architect) rather than "sports science" scheidt when he played for UCD and got a masters playing out west. Works part-time for a firm in Dublin. Dundalk pay good money now and, with his office job salary, I can't imagine he's getting much of a pay-rise by moving to Scotland. Dundalk have just secured some "investment" though and the practice of allowing Dublin players to train in Dublin is being knocked on the head for next season, with a more "professional" set-up being introduced. Still hard to see how McMillan wouldn't be making more than a Sainties salary in a couple of years if he got a full-time job in Dublin. A shame for him that part-time Bohemians or St.Pat's don't pay enough to interest him.
I'd expect a Scandinavian arrival, if we're not in "once bitten, twice shy" mode.

I'd be astounded if that was the case.

What a waste of a wage bringing in someone to help him 'settle in'. Wee soul.

Could we not just have introduced him to Skype, or Twitter, or Facebook?

Maybe just got him a puppy?

And now that Big Dave is leaving................ does that mean the bromance is over, or has he at last 'settled in' and Dave has found a homesick player at another club who he can chum to training, go on long romantic walks, and read bedtime stories to.

Slivka is an international footballer of 19 appearances and has been signed for clubs in Italy and the Netherlands since 2014.

The thought that Hibs would actually pay a wage to a player to nursemaid another senior player is ludicrous.
