Main thing is though that he is now involved with the Scotland set-up and if his form continues as it has been with Hibs he will feature in the Euro campaign with whoever the new manager is going to be.

No way is Berra close to being an international calibre player. Hanlon is much more accomplished as a player, and is a more composed defender.

So of course Malky replaces the useless Berra with Charlie Mulgrew, because, you know, he’s up for giving new players a chance...

At least McGinn got the opportunity to show he should be a Scotland regular.

A defender is never going to come on to change the game. It's more dead man's shoes.

Neither team qualified for the competition, we've not got a manager.

Can someone explain why this game ever went ahead?

Although to be fair it was better than the NI game. If that's the Michael O'Neill standard I'm glad he never came to Hibs. I thought they were the away team to start with! 8,000 @ER would be a treat! Although most of us would be ripping our eyes out with a tepid pie.

I though Super John had a smashing second half last night, he looks a real fitba player. Even the shaggers of the sheep gave him warm applause when he was awarded MOM.

The subs were pathetic.

Watching Christie play for a team I support changed my mind on him a bit, he is no better than we have and could not replace Super John if he left us.

On Norn Eyerlund regardless of Mikey O'Neill, Neil Lennon or Ivan Sproule, I just cannae support the North of Ireland, it feels to much like supporting the Gunts or Huns for me.

It's starting to really show that Scotland's downward spiral is not due to lack of quality players. We may not be world beaters but if a solid team of our best available 11 is not put out then we are never going to go anywhere. Too many wasted opportunities by poor management decisions or their inflated egos.

For me there has to be a change in the beaks that oversee our game before qualifications start for the Euros. We can't afford to let this slip any further and be fed every excuse there is that it is down to player quality or even now the latest one, size.

Thankfully back to league business next week. GGTTH.

Totally different players and play in different positions. Christie would be a great addition to the squad. Give us a bit of craft in last third. Play wide and ad a number ten.Yeah subs were brutal. Game like that every player should get minimum 45 minutes. And name a smaller squad

Tell you what though, I’ll be truly gutted when he moves on, when he is on top form he’s by far the best midfielder in Scotland imho

I've noticed this myself mate and I could see it happening last night after roughly half an hour he seemed more confident and was demanding the baw and I just sensed that he was going to have a good second half, I think I said so on this thread at HT
I would love SJM to sign a new deal so we can get something close to what he's worth when he does go but it doesn't look like it's going to happen sadly

I think SJM took a while to settle last night because when I got the first touch he expected to be blootered into orbit as he does in league games where the donkeys are out to stop him the only way they know how.

Once he realised he'd have time on the ball he became more effective - well up until the time he was chopped!

Sadly more often than not the actual transfer fee has nothing to do with the players true worth and down to what the said club need to take before running the risk of his contract running out and getting nout for him
If SJM was playing in the English leagues or even sellick then you can almost guarantee he wouldn't leave them for any less than 5 million and that's with him heading into the last 18 months of a contract
It would surely make good business sense for hibs to offer him top dollar and to avoid unrest in the changing room regarding wages a good signing on fee if that's actually possible for signing an extension
Whatever happens let's all just enjoy watching the laddie playing for the hibees for the time being I no that's what I'm doing. He's easily the best midfielder we've had in the modern era and I rate him more than Collins and Brown who are the only two who have gotten close in my time that I can think of

When you see players like Oliver Burke being sold for £15 million, SJM is a bargain at £5 million. For me John is best Scottish central midfielder in the world. Might sound like a bit of a stretch, but there's not one Scottish player I'd drop him for off the top of my head.

I agree bud the Cummings transfer fee caper still riles me up until then we almost always got top dollar and the tache was almost proud to let the media and fans how much we got etc
I realise that there's nowhere near the money in Scottish fitbaw now as there alledgley was when we got the 4 mil for broon but according to the other erse cheek they haven't been so well off and making x amount from champions league blah blah but they no that clubs like us in Scotland are on the bones of our own erse and now try and steal players up here for pennies
I would rather we kept SJM for the duration of his contract than part with him for anything less than 2 mill and a big selling on percentage but maybe that's me cutting off my nose to spite my face

Thing with oliver burke mate is he was bought from the English championship then the bundesliga and they clubs are all awash with TV money etc and are able to get dosh way and above what the actual player is worth and don't rely on selling players to survive

You only have to look at the 4.5 mil they paid for nitcham and there's another gadgey I can't remember his name they paid 3 for this year who can't even make the bench
I wouldn't take both of them for SJM and I actually think the nitcham felly might have something about him but he's not a SJM

It used to be the rule that if you started the game without floodlights you would have to wait until the start of the second half to have them switched on [or during the break ready for the second half]. That may be the rule in which case it was merely a misjudgement of how dark it would get by half time.

The problem we have is that John McGinn will only have a year left on his contract assuming he goes next summer. That will definitely have a detrimental effect on what transfer fee Hibs will collect.

Why I think we are two months from him departing.

I'd say we will get more for him now in Jan than we would have in the summer though....
