    Best League Cup Semi-final triumph?

We have had a few great nights, often at Hampden and more often than not, putting the Hun to the sword. I am sure there are other teams we have beaten in the semi that turned out to be better than the finals themselves.

As a starter for ten, I can think of two semi-finals that were particularly fun.

The first was the team that wouldn’t die, Mercer had tried to kill our club, Alex Miller took us to Hampden for a semi-final against the Sons of Satan, starring the Flying Pig, Andy Goram who had left us for the Hunnery that summer. A great run from Mickey Weir and header from Keef saw them off, with half the Hibs end not even getting there until the second half do to issues on the M8. 40,000 plus Hibs fans came back for the final, a final we won.

Then there was the night that we again beat the EBT Derry Boys on penalties which caused hibsteria in the 7000 Hibs support that we rarely feel, it was us v them and we beat them. It was joyous! We went on to lose to another bunch of cheats who didn’t pay their bills in the final in front of over 30,000 Hibby’s.

They were two great nights. And on both nights a smaller support than we will have on Saturday.

There was a pretty good-sized Hibs support there in 91- perhaps 12-13k. I think we’ll just about match that on Saturday.

That game is a favourite of mine- first time I’d seen Hibs win at Hampden and an utterly mental celebration when we scored. Like loads of others, I missed the first 20 mins.

We played very well that night. Mickey Weir was in the form of his life and they couldn’t get the ball off him.

We have a decent record against Rangers at Hampden actually.

Best one I have been at was definitely the 1991 semi against the huns at Hampden, even though I missed the first half hour including Keith's goal due to traffic hold-ups. That second half was incredible, and the feeling of joy when the final whistle went was unreal. We all knew we had the best chance for many years of wining a trophy.

The semi at Tynecastle last year was a cracker as well. It was 2-1 going on 5-1. Best performance from John McGinn I have seen...in fact all our midfield were superb that day.

85 semi second leg at Ibrox was amazing, M8 was bad that night missed start of game didn't have any problems in 91 getting through other than when a lad on the IEC bus launched a brush and shovel he had found into a group of Huns from top deck of bus..

The one against the stickies is my favourite semi final ever. The atmosphere during the penalty shoot out was tense as f""k and the joy at winning was euphoric. When I got back to the Antiquary after the game one of the barmaids said to me that that was the happiest she had ever seen me look. She could have offered to trump that but sadly didn't.

Pen shootout against Huns in monsoon conditions was the best. Semi replay against Dunfy the worst. *shudders*

The Keith one was my favourite, saw the whole 90 mins having been in the weej since about 2. Fantastic night, grown men were crying.

The 1-0 defeat at Ipox is prob my 2nd fav - although missed about half of that one due to traffic. Horrendous scenes afterwards though until we passed the final bridge over the M8 on the way out.

Can't see it mentioned but the 93 semi v Dundee Utd is worth a reference. Not as whole heartedly enjoyable as turning over the Ugly sisters but a real triumph for us that night at the Bus Shelter. Jackson fired us into the final but we had some great performances from a good Hibs side. Leighton was excellent. That was an excellent Hibs squad.

Favourite non Hibs semi probably Hearts losing to nine man ICT at Easter Road in front of about 11,000, terrible crowd for a semi in their own city..

Terrific game. Tynie was bouncing. Was in the home terracing right behind the goals. That really was a good team, the final was just brutally unkind. Did we hit the post just after McCoist's fluke?

McCoist had the script written for him, of course. Spawny git. We could have won that day but the fates conspired. Hibs with two proper, proper wide players.

I was in Miller's company the day he signed Crunchie. He was like a kid at Christmas. Cracking team. One of my favourite spells watching Hibs 91-94.

I as a long time hibs man feel Miller gave us one of the best teams I have had the pleasure of watching and yet a lot of our fans have no time for him and I can't for the love of it figure out why

That and his general demeanour didn't help.

Although the media claimed Hibs fans never accepted Old $#@! Face because of his Hun background, I don't remember anyone giving a flying fcuk about it.

Neither can I. I thought he was an excellent manager for Hibs.
He was in the post for too long however.

His derby record was poor mainly because IMO for the vast majority of his ten year period as manager they simply had a better team than Hibs and this tended to be borne out more often than not when we played them during this time. I know it's not easy for us as Hibs fans to accept to but IMO this was the case. When Miller put together an excellent Hibs team between 1991 and 1994...a team which was able to compete properly with Hearts when we played them, we won a number of derbies.

They also had a derby weapon during Millers time we could never cope with and it's name was John Robertson. In some of the more closely fought derbies between 1986 and 1996 he was the difference between the teams.

Apologies this is all a bit off the subject of the thread, I just wanted to respond to the comments.

Alex Millers regret is that he didn't let us know he had a team on £350 a week when that mob were paying Bruno 4K a week...
