Best player you have ever actually seen play

Not the best player of all time, because the chances are that you will never have actually seen them play. So the likes of Pele, Maradona, Messi, Beckenbaur, Cruyff, Van Basten, Di Stefano, Puskas, etc whilst all very strong candidates for the greatest player of all time, will more than likely not have been seen by any Bouncers. So out of the ones you have seen who was the best ?

The best all round player I have ever actually seen play was without doubt Kenny Dalglish. I was fortunate to have seen him play for Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland on several occasions and I have yet to see anyone better.

Who is the best you have ever seen play ?

Of the sourness revolution players, I thought mikailechenko was the best, I suppose I also seen Larson too but I thought Kevin Philips was better. Van vossen was impressive for anderlecht. Gascogne was good too if on the road to destruction by then.

Gascoigne would probably be the second best Player I have ever seen. I was fortunate enough to see him play for Tottenham just after the WC in 1990 and he scored four goals from midfield in the game. It was a brilliant individual performance.

George Best at his peak with Manchester United.

With respect, I'm not sure I needed to see the rest.

Bryan Robson played in a very competitive testimonial at Easter Road and was world class. I've never seen anyone stroll a game like that .
Paula Dicanio was a fantastic player , and a nutter !!!

Have been lucky to see players like Messi, Zidane, Figo, both Ronaldos, Thuram, Nedved, Keane, Viera, Henry..

Going back a bit Dalglish, John Barnes,

Always thought Luis Enrique ex Barcelona was tremendous, saw him score at the Bernebau in 2003

Barnes was a fabulous player...the type you just don't see in the game these days.
Pace, fantastic dribbling ability and he could finish as well.

Saw Ronaldo play at the Bernabau in 2010...he had a quiet game that night but he is an awesome player as we have all seen over the years.

You are a fortunate man Stu to have seen the great man play at the peak of his career.
He must have been something special.

He really was, buddy, just unstoppable and a total genius. I formed an opinion at a young age that it was probably impossible to play this game better than George Best. One particular Forest v Man U game I saw he was reported in the local media as giving the Forest left back john Winfield, 'twisted blood'. That was an understatement!

    He was sensational and unforgettable.

Probably Jurgen Klinsmann. Saw him at Easter Road when Raith played Bayern in the UEFA Cup. Can't remember if he scored one or two that night.

A bit leftfield but one of the best solo performances I have seen was Chris Waddle for Newcastle at Easter Road. Mid eighties?

No one could get the ball off him - brilliance!

I have been lucky enough to see a number of the names listed, and can include Maradona once and Christian Ronaldo, Messi and Ronaldinho many times through my trips to see Barca home and away.

Best I have seen is Lionel Messi.

    Lionel Messi.

Seen him play at the Nou Camp as Barcelona beat Valencia 5-1. Messi got 4 of them.

Like many others I'm an auld **** so there's been lots of opportunity to see many fine players.

Many of the 1966 world cup winners might not go down well here but at the same time there were many Scottish players brought them down to earth!

The Real Madrid team of the 1990s with Bernhard Schuster making it tick and Hugo Sanchez up front.

The Barcelona team of not so long ago, sublime.

There's been a huge number of Hibs players who have had me excited when the ball got even close to them!

Past his best but the best was George Best. He didn't really give a $#@! when he played for us and just let it happen. Miles ahead of anything I'm likely to witness and playing with a freedom you're unlikely to witness these days. Probably a bit like Frank Sauzee.

Maybe we should ditch the youth policy???

Best individual performance I have seen play would probably be by Cristiano Ronaldo; bagged four goals for Man Utd in a 6-0 hammering of the Toon at Old Trafford (all in the 2nd half).

Prefer Messi and have seen him play twice live but not to the same standard as Ronaldo that day. Seen Alan Shearer play many times for Newcastle and he often delivered an centre forward masterclass

I think the best performance I've seen was Lombardo, the bald guy who played for Juve. Went to 3 games over the course of a month or so April 97 and he stood out in a team that included Zidane and Del Piero. Clearly they were better players, but one game in particular in Verona he was amazing.

One of those games Juve scudded Milan by 4 or 5 goals at San Siro, think their team had Baggio,Weah and Boban in it too!

My dad grew up in Manchester, followed United since 1951, seen all the greats of English football and saw Pele,Eusebio,Diego,Cruyff up until probably the end of the 80's and he insists the finest footballer he ever saw was Duncan Edwards. There's simply no deviation from him. Guess it's like Hibbys who saw Smith.

Saw Gabriel Batistuta when he was a one man team at Fiorentina; he smashed two in and smoked a cigar for the remaining 20 mins.

It has to be said: Henrik Larsson was class.

Messi for me. Iniesta in second place - a completely different type of player from Messi but I swear with his close dribbling skills he could keep the ball off you in a phone box!

Hard to choose a best player as I've had the good fortune of seeing many football greats play for the likes of Milan, Juve, Bayern, Barca, Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U etc.

Have seen all the recent Ballon d'Or nominees in action, the great sides from the above clubs.

The most star filled evening I think I have ever seen was a Portugal v Brazil friendly in the early 00s. Ronaldinho, The Real Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Figo, Rui Costa, Ricardo, Cafu, Carlos...and so on. Pele and Eusebio played a half time challenge to end all half time challenges. A young Cristiano Ronaldo got a taste of the national side ahead of his proper call up for the first time the following season.

    It was mind blowing.
Hibs are standing on the brink of history...

Messi. Best all round performance ie running the whole game was Billy Bremner against the Hibs at Easter Road.

I seen a guy called Juan Román Riquelme play for Boca Juniors about ten years ago. He was $#@!in amazing, I'm telling you. Easily the best I've seen live.

Second would be Gareth Bale for Spurs, v Coventry in the FA cup a few years ago.

I was lucky enough to get to be at Roberto Baggio's final competitive game against Milan at the San Siro in May 2004. It was a privilege to be there and a chance to join thousands of Italians pay their respects to him. Was fortunate enough to see him play against Scotland and also in the CL - another player worthy of a name check. A true great.

Kenny, Ian Rush, John Barnes, Mark Hughes, Bryan Robson, Glenn Hoddle, Davie Cooper, and David Rocastle when he came through the ranks at Arsenal was magic. He had it all, tackling, pass it, dribble and shoot. Respect, rest in peace Rocky. Davie Cooper too

Although Messi would be the obvious and probably undisputable answer I would still make a case for Zinedene Zidane who could never match Messi for goals or explosive pace as that wasn't his game but for me he equals Messi on his speed of thought and exquisite control and then shades Messi on elegance and an ability to fully dominate a World Cup match such as the Brazil final (1998) or the Brazil Quarterfinal (2006) as the midfield fulcrum, warrior and leader at the highest level of all.

Honourable mentions to the Portuguese Ronnie and the Brazillian Ronnie two more amazing players and not that far off are Bergkamp and Inniesta who were simply a joy and when you think about it the last 20 years have truly produced an amazing plethora of incredible footballer's who were a privilege to watch.
Football is the most important of life's least important things.

George Best at his peak with Manchester United.

With respect, I'm not sure I needed to see the rest.

I’ve seen Messi in the Camp Nou - his movement, touch & skill is something to behold.

I also saw Rooney in his prime - his work rate was incredible, not something I’d ever appreciated watching hiM on TV, and his ability to impose himself on a match was special.

In Scotland Larson & Gascoigne were possibly the best I’ve seen (not including our own great players over the years).

Tomorrow I’m hoping to see Cristiano Ronaldo & co at Wembley.

Mentioned this thread when talking to an old pal of mine yesterday who lives down Winchester way, and we were talking about going to see a Southampton game in the 90s (94-ish?) at the Dell, where they beat Liverpool 4-2.

One Matt Le Tissier scored a hat-trick (couple of penalties included). He was some player, like. The "Guernsey Garrincha".
