The Priority For The January Window

Needs to be IMO a goalscorer. Stokes is getting a lot of criticism it appears (especially on social media) which I think is very unfair. Simon Murray will come good again but I see him as the James Keatings of last season in this squad. If Stokes got injured it's a horrible prospect. We need to go into the January window with intent and I'd like to see us really try for Moult or Rooney.

A younger grant Holt. Moult would be excellent signing

Rumours of us going for Moult were rife the last window and continue. No surprise really.

We're creating lots of chances, as we always have, converting them is an age old problem.

Moult might be impossible by January.

But definitely someone of that shape, some sort of target man for other people to play off of, he doesn't need to score a tonne himself if others chip in. But to balance things out and compete in days like yesterday we need a unit.

Anyone know what's up with Davy Matulevičius?

He's a huge unit according to the English commentator when he came on against them midweek.

I would have thought he'd have been just the felly to rough these sheepy thugs up.

Can't see us getting moult, we were behind the pecking order in summer if reported fees offered were accurate and really can't see that would have changed us sitting mid table.

I forgot about him there... I remember in his interview he said he liked British football because he could fight. Only seen a little bit if him when he's been on, big guy who chased the ball, need to see more of him actually.

Hope he's here for more than to help Slivka settle? He moved to Italy after all.

    Good thread.

I like Neil Lennon, but I find it frankly astonishing that he has depleted our striker strength for this season by one in order to accommodate another wide player in Brandon Barker. We had four strikers last season in the Championship...the prolific Jason Cummings, the experienced and streetwise bruiser which was Grant Holt, the very useful goalscoring dead-ball expert James Keatings, and the IMO unfairly criticised by many Brian Graham. We lost all four of them in the summer and brought in Murray, Matelavicious and eventually Stokes. Graham was allowed to leave late on in the window in order to free up a wage to bring in Barker on loan. Therefore we are into a higher standard of league with one less striker in our first team squad than we had last season in the Championship.

When you add to the above that Matelavicious has hardly kicked a ball for us since he signed, although the Lithuanian national coach thought he was good and fit enough to come on and play against England last week-end, and Simon Murray appears to have been demoted to the bench for whatever reason, it's little wonder that we are yet again finding goals very hard to come by. We are relying almost entirely on Anthony Stokes up front and the huge worry is if he gets injured or is out of sorts as he was yesterday after a virus. What the hell is the problem with the big Lithuanian ? He wasn't even on the bench yesterday, instead we had a Development squad striker Oli Shaw whom whilst highly promising, the manager is on record as saying is not ready yet to play in the first team.

We should have brought in a recognised penalty-box goalscorer in the summer to replace Cummings and we are paying the price for that omission already IMO. I rate Barker..he is a very skilful and creative winger, but we didn't need as a priority another wide player especially as it meant our striker quota being reduced to three from last seasons four. I agree with Smurf. We need to get a recognised goalscoring striker in during January although I know how difficult this is going to be. I also think a decision has to be made on Matelavicious. He either starts getting some game time (Lennon said when he signed him that he had been after him for a while so he must have had a clear plan for his role in the team), or we replace him with a Holt type experienced front man capable of leading the line and holding the ball up. At the moment we have two good wide players in Barker and Boyle who have nothing to aim at in the penalty box.

I think we’re set up for 4 5 1 in which case 3 strikers and Boyle and matecukvicas and Slivka barker might be enough. I think Murray’s early form messed up the plans as we tried to accommodate him and stokes in the same team. The next few games will be interesting as I think we might have a real jump on Celtic with them in Germany on Wednesday night. Lennon probably knows what his team will be whilst they are waiting on checking the injuries on Thursday morning.

IT doesn't excite me greatly, but I could see Kenny Miller playing for us after Christmas. I suppose we could do worse.
Murray and Swanson should be given a run of games , Boyle is more effective as an impact player.

We also won't know what Shaw can do unless we give him a few games . Riordan , Brown , Occonnor and Thompsom all got thrown in because we had no option and look what happened . I know it dosent always work that way , but we are looking like a mid table team this season, so now the time take a few chances .

I don't think we look like a mid table side at all. Our performances have been very good and top 4 is entirely realistic IMO.

I'm sure we would have got Moult if we had the money. I like Simon Murray but think he is struggling a bit with the standard of teams we are playing.
I think NL should give Deivydas(and Shaw to a lesser extent) some game time.

The Aberdeen defence is a solid unit and hard to break down. We got through a few times but didnt shooting was off. Didnt seem to be much wrong with the same team last week. Can see Lennon going with same team next week too. Hope so. Apart from maybe McGregor its arguably our strongest team.

I hope your right. Our home form is a worry, we really need to be taking more than 1 point from Hamilton Mwell and the sheep if we hope to make an impression.

It is realistic but we need to start winning. Good performances on most occasions just the goals missing.

I feel that Stokes and Keatings game is quite similar. Stokes loves to drop deep to pick up the ball which often leaves us without a focal point up front. I’d like to see us bring someone in who is a box striker similar to JC
    Its Liam Henderson to deliver...
And David Gray has scored! The captain!
Hibs are standing on the brink of history!

January windows seldom bring significant moves.I wonder what it might bring - doubtless someone will predict it will deliver
