Best League Cup Final player performance?

Hibs have won the league cup three times, 1972 beating Celtic, 1991beating Dunfermline and 2007 when we beat Killie.

We saw the brilliance of Pat, and Wee Jimmy O'Rourke, the skill of Mickey's Weir and Edwards, Keef Keef's clinical finishing, that header by Rob Jones, Benji and Fletch but for me the best performance I have seen by a Hibs player in a league cup final has to be our very own Lewis Stevenson in 2007, he was fantastic that day won the first of his two cup winning medals. Yes Lewis really does have one of each.

We should remember the standard of the opposition. That Celtic yeam we beat was one of the finest in Europe. And we outplayed them. Pat Stanton strolled it.

The whole 07 team really turned up that day. Lewis motm but I thought Murphy really made his life a lot easier. Recall thinking Boozy had a cracker too.
Can’t recall too much about 91- can the whole game be viewed anywhere?

Too young for 72 but beating that Celtc team must have meant a few handy performances!

Thought Benji played like the Real Madrid player he aspired to be 2007.

For those of us of a certain vintage it has to be Pat Stanton, great leadership and drive Hibs forward in the second half. A true Hibernian legend that played a fine captains role and it has to b3 remembered a great turnaround in our fortunes post the Scottish Cup defeat seven months earlier.

1972: Hibs beat Jock Stein's Celtic team....a team which still contained several of the Lisbon Lions. We outplayed this team at Hampden in a national cup final and Hibs captain supreme Pat Stanton ran the show. Alan Gordon said it was the finest midfield performance he had ever seen by any player ever.

1991: Hibs beat bottom of the league Dunfermline as we were widely expected to do. It was nerve-ridden tense affair with little in the way of excitement until our wonderful wee winger Mickey Weir stepped up to the mark. The penalty was dodgy to say the least but I have always believed that the referee gave the penalty as Raymond Sharp had has arms all over Weir as he was running through and saw it as a push. Weir then started to terrorise the Pars defence and it was his superb through ball to Keith Wright which sealed the game and the cup. Mickey Weir for me was Hibs best player that day.

2007: Hibs hammered Killie 5-1. They were fortunate it was only five goals they lost. A wonderful young Hibs side put together by Tony Mowbray finally reached it's peak that day under new boss John Collins. Hibs were narrow favourites to win as we were a better team than Killie but the bookies thought it would be close. It wasn't. A young Lewis Stevenson played very well in midfield (where I always think he would be better suited), but for me Steven Fletcher destroyed Killie that day ably assisted by Benji who had his best ever game for the club. Deadly finishing from both players in that second half. Fletcher for me though should have got MOTM.

I would like to add to the mix another Hibs player who provided an exceptional League Cup Final performance...Joe Harper in 1974 again against Stein's Celtic. He scored a Hat-trick against them and still ended up on the losing side. I was taken to this match as a 9 year old by my dad, it was my first ever cup-final and my first ever visit to Hampden.

Taking everything into account...the standard of opposition, the big match occasion, the overall performance...for me it has to be Pat Stanton in the 1972 League Cup Final who provided Hibs best ever League Cup Final performance.

Yup. 07 is the only League Cup win I saw in the flesh and Benji was outstanding that day, probably his best ever Hibs performance.

Best league cup final player performance

Don't think Keven macallister deserved to be on the losing side in 1993
It is in truth not for glory nor riches nor honours that we are fighting but for freedom
