Don't waste time worrying about any pain associated with the operation, look ahead to when you're up and about again.

How long did you have to wait Mr T. I've been needing new hips for about 4 years and am no closer to getting them. Any tips on moving things along more quickly than seems to be happening? I wish I could afford to go private on this because I'm in pain all the time now it seems.

I know a few folk who have had replacement hip(s) done locally - all of them were taken within a few months of diagnosis. All on NHS.

I think they've lost your file.

I'm still in the queue to see the specialist man. My doctor kept trying to put me off and then a new doctor hoved in to view and she put me forward to see the specialist the first time I had a consultation with her. Hopefully things will move quickly once I get to see the specialist but even that is still a number of weeks away - a big number. Maybe I should go back to the Doc and lay it on a bit.

Was there (is there?) not some sort of commitment to see a specialist in 18 weeks for such conditions?
I may have made that up.....................

Good luck anyway, pain isn't a good thing to have to live with.

I know exactly what you mean. I done my back in my mid 40s. When it wasn't getting any better I went to the GP. Got the usual painkillers and anti-inflammatory stuff. This went on for 4 years and most of the time I was in excruciating pain but was still on full duties. Eventually I went through the internal wellbeing department and got referred for an MRI. Turned out I had a 4mm shift in a lower disc. Got put on light duties for the remainder of my service and got a physio.
Some days it can still be dodgy but I manage it now and get virtually little trouble. All down to perseverance and a good physio who knew what he was doing.

I phoned the contact number for the specialist about 6 weeks ago and was told there was a 26 week waiting list mate. I've got about 20 weeks to go by which time I'll probably be unable to walk. Fukk it I'm going back to the Doc on monday to try to get things moving along.

I was registered n Aberdeen dubster and they said it was 9 weeks just to see the consultant . Then ARI phoned me and said waiting time was 34......AYE 34 weeks !!!!! Said they could put me on Glasgow waiting list as it was much quicker . 9 weeks later seen surgeon at rosshall in Glasgow ( private and paid for by NHS at cost of 12k ) and op was done 3 weeks later . Ask to go on a quicker waiting list mate ! 4 years is an utter DISGRACE . I totally know how you feel .

My father in law had the operation 3 weeks ago. He was in agony leading up to the operation. He is still on pain killers 3 weeks after the op (he's 66) but able to walk around and drive his car.

Done in morning out of bed in afternoon, phsio day 2 and home day 3. Quite a bit of pain control required. Driving 2 or 3 months. Climbing ladders anything up to 6 months. All depends on individual.
