All time team vote nominations for right and left back short lists

The goalies were fairly straightforward but let's go with the members making nominations to be included in the voting short lists for LB and RB.
I think given the depth of names we might get for CB we might include the odd player who played full back as well as another position.

    Starter for ten
    RB
Brownlie Gray Whittaker Gary Smith (see caveat re CB) W Miller
Over to you for other nominees...

    LB
    Stevenson, Schaedler, Murphy, Laursen
Over to you for the other nominees...
Hibs are standing on the brink of history...

I'd have gone for shades and onion so my choices are covered. Some good back ups in there though.

    Brownlie and Murphy...

Erich Schaedler was a great defender and hard as they come, but Murphy had a bit more to his game.
Brownlie was just top class and should have had far more Scotland caps than he did. Unfortunately he got a serious leg break and he was also up against Danny McGrain.

Murphy at left back. That's easy.
Gray at right back. Cup final edges it

John Brownlie easily the best right back, although Sir David had a wee something that Onion never managed......

Left back is difficult but Murphy possibly Shades it.

Murphy was tremendous,a beautiful feathery touch. But Lewis Stevenson is my choice at left back. Two cups and a league title, loyalty and a genuinely nice person.

Right back is harder. I don't think we've had a really outstanding right back in 30+ years? Whittaker was great but not really a right back, Miller was radge and also a cup winner.

David Gray scored the single most important goal in the history of our football club and lifted the Scottish Cup. So David Gray.

Pretty sure Murphy would just get it ahead of Shades for me, but I always liked Ian Munro at left back too.

John Brownlie - genuinely as good a right back as I've seen anywhere, I don't think I'm going over the top in describing him as world class.

Eric Schaedler - would run through a brick wall for Hibs, pacy and as hard as nails.

Onion for me too, although I see no one has named Des Brebner as a candidate?
Murphy or Shades for t'other side.

    Indeed.

You seem to be the only one who recalls a player of that name.

Grey at right back for obvious reasons but it's a tough choice for left back between Murphy and Stevenson with probably Stevenson just clinching it for his service and 3 winners medals

If you meant Des Bremner, he was a midfielder.

Think Des Bremner was first introduced to the side as a replacement for John Brownlie at right back when he broke his leg. Moved into midfield afterwards.

Wasn't aware of that, but the majority of his career was in Midfield. He was a star for the Villa.

    Spot on.

Des played about a dozen games as I remember it, and was a pretty decent replacement for Onion, although not quite as good at the crunching tackles.
He played midfield after that and went on to further greatness dan sarf.
