    Scotland v Slovakia

Thoughts on tonight's game folks? It's come down to win-or-bust as it always does with Scotland, can anyone see us getting the win we need to take it to the last game? We were totally outclassed in Slovakia but have improved since.

Brown and Armstrong will be big losses for us. Can see Strachan going with the likes of Bannan (or even Darren Fletcher?) ahead of our own John McGinn in midfield but you never know. 1-0 Scotland in a nerve-shredder to take it onto the Slovenia game

I've got us down for a 2-1 win in my work predictor. I think we'll win and then be 1-0 up against Slovenia only for them to draw level in the last 5 minutes. Its the Scotland way.

I am heading along tonight with both excitement and some trepidation. Scotland still "Scotland It" regularly enough not to make a prediction.

I'm confident tonight. It is literally a very different team that will be facing Slovakia tonight to the one that lost so heavily in the away fixture.

Would be great to see McGinn and McGreggor feature, it bodes well for the future.

For the first time in years I've taken a wee interest and will be going to a pub to watch the match instead of my usual Thursday night pub!

I think Slovakia will play for a draw which means it will be very difficult for Scotland to win. I do however think we will edge it if we can score first.
It's our Hampden results which ultimately cost us in every campaign, so here's hoping we can reverse that trend and get a big win tonight.

    Pretty much!

Apart from my 2 days (and nights) when I won't go out drinking. I take some of the other days off too now and again.

Same stubborn mistakes strachan made in not playing Griffiths in last qualifiers, same players who have failed before... same old story. Diff players but same lack of balls in selection

D.Fletcher, Bannan, Forrest... Strachan playing it safe in a game where we have to throw caution to the wind FFS! Has Forest ever had a good game for Scotland?! A rich man's Alan O'Brien! Prove me wrong, James!

Yep, a ridiculously boring safe option, tried and failed players... yet if we fail, it will be the "we simply dont have the players excuse" No, its backbone and creativity in the mind of managers we dont have

Have to eventually take off a defender and go for it. I'd give it another 10 minutes max.

Yassss! Superb! Well deserved. Thought the much-malingned Chris Martin was good when he came on. Put himself about and caused them problems.

Left it late, but well done Scotland.
Keeps us in with a shout of the play-offs in the last game and that's all we can ask for at this stage.

Superb Scots.... left it late but we deserved it. Desperately unlucky with hitting the bar twice. Would have liked to seen Super John McGinn go on. 10/10 for effort against a well organised and physical side. All the Slovakia players seem to have huge frames and it seems the way to beat them was with pace. Thanks to Sparky for his great assist. I thought Andy Robertson was superb. I've never been a big fan of those pink strips - changed because of a clash I hear. I agree it's time to leave Jamie Forrest out.

I think we bossed it, to be honest; the difference between the first game against Slovakia and that game was marked, even with them being down to ten.

He's got to move past James Forrest, though. The laddie's $#@!ing hopeless at this level.

Listen to the English commentator doing the Scotland game on ITV. The pure joy at us scoring is beautiful to hear. So happy that fitba justice was done. $#@!s like Provan and Walker etc should hang their heads in shame.

I was at the game tonight and thought Scotland were poor, mainly down to a real lack of ambition from the manager in his selection and substitutions. Scotland probably did deserve to win, but in the end were fortunate rather than convincing, although all that matters in the end is the 3 points. But it was dreadful to watch inside a tense Hampden. Maybe I’m spoiled with the fearless football Lennon has Hibs playing, but that was not an enjoyable 90 minutes.

The midfield three totally lacked creativity or conviction for me, and those three shouldn’t play together again. Fletcher at this point in his career is not as good as Scott Brown, Morrison isn’t a regular for his club and it shows, while Barry Bannan must be one of those players who does a lot of “unseen work” that some managers love as I can’t understand what he brings to to the team. The match was crying out for McGinn or McGregor (or both) to come on and add some drive & creative spark but it never came.

A word for their goalkeeper who I thought made some excellent saves.

    Slivka scores against Malta.
Could have done with him scoring two. Malta 1 - 1 Lithuania was the only result that humped my acca for the evening... it was paying out £3400 from a £5 stake had Lithuania had just scored one more. 😞

HZ, I could have written that word for word myself, exactly as I saw it. With 10 minutes to go I said to my sons, even if by some miracle, we win, I didnae care less if I ever saw Scotland play under Strachan again. He is stubborn fool, who's loyalty is beyond ridiculous.

Was there last night. The SCENES at the end were brilliant.

As for Strachan... his two subs effectively combined for the goal, so I'm going to give him that. However, imo, Bannan while tidy simply did not affect the game in any meaningful way; while Phillips also did not affect the game in any way whatsoever. Both utterly insipid at best - how they remained on the park is anyone's guess.

On another note, having now had the benefit of a replay, that barge on Tierney inside the box is as clear a penalty as you're ever likely to see. What the ref thought he saw is anyone's guess.

Saying all that, the chips are really down now, and results are all that matters. Will be bricking it come 5pm Sunday

No probably about it, we were by far the more attacking team, with their goalie being motm and us hitting the bar twice.

Agree about Bannan/Fletcher and also Phillips who I thought was poor. Robertson/Griffiths our best players. Tierney is also class.

You'd like to think that SJM or McGregor will start on Sunday, but we all know it'll be the same 11 starting. And it could prove to be the correct choice.

Bannan was ok and definitely the more active of the three midfielders.
Fletcher was anonymous but, given the players out there, I don't mind his experienced voice being out there.
Morrison did have a purple patch three-four years ago but his inclusion last night, including McArthur from the bench, was $#@!ebag stuff from Strachan. Both aren't playing and both don't have the energy (Morrison was way off the pace at times) or desire to drive forward.

Forward thinking for Slovenia. Midfield drive required in the absence of Brown. Dinny be a $#@!ebag.

Can pretty much guarantee that Sunday's team will be the same starting 11 than last nights. Barring injury and suspensions.
