Fish Pie

I'm gonna have one tonight. I'm nearly $#@!in 50 and i've never had yin. I actually hate the sea. It tastes bogging and unseen things will eat you in it. When you're floating about in it, consider this -you are merely a chunky crouton in a big bowl of salty soup- Get OOT! Jaws. Say no more. Not to mention it's $#@!in' cauld and wavey.

Anyways....fish pie. I don't like prawns I don't like salmon. I like cod and haddock so for every $#@!e fish there's a good un. Tatties, cheese...good good...some butter & cream...mmmmm what's not to like?

It's called Admiral Pie. And that sounds special. To me. Who knew that the strips I used to wear in the 70's were officially fishy? I'm having it with crusty bread ya bass! <--Ha! howzat for fishful fings?

No bones about it (Stop!!) um gonna enjoy it.

Frozen gear Spency me laddo. In a funny way it's the only way to go. Raw fish pie would gie me the boak! Fish can bolt full stop. Flappy, slimey, smelly, ugly ****s that they are. Ewww!

One of my favourite teas, homemade though. And with eggs. Smoked haddock is also important. And tomatoes.

So I did. She got a portion of fried rice. Nae curry sauce. I got her a sachet of soy sauce though. She proceeded to eat bits of everyone's meals and declared it the finest meal we have ever had! She had one portion of fried rice FFS!

To this day I wish I had ordered her boiled rice.

I'm a big fan of the humble spud (despite having to harvest the buggers as a kid at the home for unwanted ginger children). In fact I love tatties - boiled, roasted, baked, chips, mashed... I love em BUT a pie's not really a pie unless it's got a pie crust in my book. My Mrs does a fish pie with a crust and it's proper.

I'll go as far as to say that the soggy layer of mash burned on the top you find on most fish pies is a criminal waste of potatoes. Better to make a fish stew with mash on the side if that's the combination you so desire.

The beauty of the fish pie 'n' crust combination is you can have tatties on the side too. I like mine with roasties. Yup, give me my Mrs' big inviting flakey crust over Captain Birdseye's gloopy mess every time!

Personally I use green food colouring in two thirds of the mash over the assorted fish, some smoked, some peas, no tomato, and have that down each side with plain white mashed down the middle and a sprinkling of cheddar.

I've never thought of taking it to Easter Road.

Well the pie wad lovely even if it only had some tiddlers in it. Had to stick a pizza in the oven for ma pudding. Think I'll try and make my own next time after what you lovely peeps have been saying.

I don't like many of the ingredients in a fish pie but somehow I love a fish pie. Capers are a good addition. Kedgeree though - that's the prince among dishes. The secret is FCKLOADS of butter.

One difference I've noticed between England and Scotland is the idea that haddock and - especially - cod are rubbishy fish. They're not exactly delicacies down here but they're not thought of as crap. Whereas my in-laws would have a fit if we served up cod to them as part of a proper dinner.

I don't like fish, but I've made an untold number of fishpies.

Spring onion and chives are a must, as is Dijon mustard and smoked haddock. I put peas in too.
Thick layer of buttery mash and a layer of cheddar. Always goes down well.

Frozen ones are a waste of time.

Had never heard of this so googled it to see if it was an actual thing. Seems it is!

It's a pretty strong look, unafraid to court controversy. I doubt I'd order one tbh.
