    Blazing Saddles

Mel Brookes is on the J Woss show.

Great to chat about auld buggers that are still alive, he's 91! I will always be thankful to him for Blazing Saddles. Every time I watch it my sides are aching and I suspect if I watch it another 100 times they still will.

My wife just said she never "got it".

    I'm surprised we're married!

Absolute classic, own it on DVD and stick it on once in a while. The PC crowd would have a fit if something like that was released today.

I think it's a woman thing. I remember rolling about laughing and my mum and sister asking what was funny.

It was my wife that really got me into his films.

I think the thing about his films is that many people don't 'get it' as in they don't follow the genius that he is using slapstick and tropes like Westerns, Horror, Musicals etc to highlight the absurdity of racism etc and how so many of those old Westerns, Musicals etc are riddled with racist absurdity themselves. He does all this while still managing to make the films really funny which is a great skill.

I must have watched this film at least hmmm 30 odd times in me lifetime. Still laugh every single time.

First time I seen it was at the Calton Studios (about 1981?)with me auld mucker James Flucker. True $#@!e story. True brilliant name.
