    Fitness?

I thought Hamilton looked fitter than us yesterday. Their third goal in particular we looked on our arses.

Anyone else think we looked a bit off the pace fitness wise?

Or was it just the mentality of the players expecting they'd easily beat Hamilton?

We know Stokes and Barker are not match fit. I wouldn't expect either to be until at least October.

Has Lennon had Stokes playing in other games?

Lennon said he thinks they were mentally tired after the fall out from Ibrox. I know from speaking to Lewis that training is harder under Lennon than anyone in the last decade. Lewy said they were even training on the dunes at Gullane in pre season...1970s stylee. The one thing is that some of the team missed some or all of the preseason. Stokes, Hanlon, Efe, the Leithuanians...and we've clearly gambled on getting them fit in first team game time. Last week adrenalin got them through. Yesterday everything about the game was flat.

I wouldn't be surprised if the preparations for yesterdays game had been affected from the fall-out after Ibrox. It was still the major media story on Thursday and into Friday...not helped by Lennon still banging on about it during his Thursday pre-match press conference which was supposed to mainly concern the next game. There seemed to be a clear lack of focus from the team yesterday on the task in hand, a lack of sharpness and cohesion.

I found NL's comment at the start of his media conference interesting this week where he said he had been away for a few days on media work.

Fitness wasn't an issue last week at Ibrox or any of our other league cup successes this year. Lack of concentration and application was key for me. Why that was the case I don't know but hopefully a one off aberration which won't be tolerated for any length of time by NL. I'm confident we'll see a positive reaction at Dens next week.

As soon as a team suffers a poor defeat they are always 'not fit' or 'not trying'. It is written.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this team's fitness - far from it.

Well look at the third Hamilton goal. Suggests to me a fitness issue...

I know he has an assistant and other coaches but I'd prefer if in our midweek preparation our manager was around.

I have and it suggests nothing of the sort.

A combination of poor defending and a well-worked Hamilton move.

We just didn't have any real ideas yesterday, they tried to play some football and their third goal was near brilliant.
Just figured us out and outplayed us.

We were $#@!e, no hidden reasons or excuses for defeat.

I said at the end of last season that one of the things that concerned me was getting used to the higher league and the first bad result.

There's teams like Hamilton that have learned, not to do well in this league but survive and Hamilton have this in spades. That combined with a very bad day in the office gave us yesterday's result.

I'm sure we'll learn from this and be less likely to be caught out in future.

Yesterday we tried to play football, it didn't come off particularly in the second half. If that happens we need a plan B, which includes digging in.

Didn't look like fitness was an issue at all. Third goal we pushed men forward and got caught napping. How about taking a look at our goal. We were the ones charging at Hamilton in the last seconds of the game. They couldn't keep up with us in the end.

Agree. We have one bad game and suddenly the team's not fit, Lennon's tactics are wrong, some players are 'lazy' etc. Yes, it was disappointing, but Hamilton played well and it's one game!

Think he was only away 1 night? And the players regularly get a day off during the week so may have been off the wed? He was certainly back for Thursday's training and press. He's made the point in the past that he let's other coaches take the sessions so that the player don't get bored/numb to him roaring at them in training.

After Saturday nobody deserves a day off!

    Aye right.

Some folk, @Smurf, need to edge on the side of what's realistic in the real world.

We have a squad of fitness coaches and fitness and diets experts other clubs envy that have relevant qualifications seeping from their pours verses internet gurus the closest they've been to professional sport is providing a sample against the porcelain!

I've learned to let the professionals get on with it.

Yes @Jack and it's early in the season where some players are NOT at their ultimate match fitness.

    Stokes certainly is NOT.
    I don't think Ambrose is.
    Barker is NOT.
And in his excellent 'Just back' @1875 suggests Whittaker isn't yet firing in all cylinders.

That's match fitness not physical fitness which is as much mental as well as muscle memory. Efe is meant to be a bit of a fitness fanatic and whits is meant to be in great shape also, the lads need a run of game's unfortunately for us

Agreed. I'm in no doubt with this squad and manager we are going to have a very good season. We will improve with games...

Think they were in training on Sunday coz we saw Slivkas looking decidedly lost at the entrance to Lochend Park when we were heading to ER to see A Field of Our Own.
