    Leithuanians vs Morrocans

    a striker and a midfield...just like 10yrs ago

so will the Leithuanians deliver/feature like the Morrocans did.

Benji and Zemama brought home a trophy?

From our brief glimpse of them on Saturday, the No 8 looks a real player, the striker, a man mountain!

The Morrocans for me had it but aside from the League Cup never really produced it -
flashes aside. I found them very frustrating as they were capable of absolute brilliance when they wanted to.

I'll bide my time and see how it turns out.

I loved the Morrocans though and after a while became quite proficient in saying their names!

Benji and Zemmama were both very talented players but had attitude problems which often had a bad effect on the team. Both could be devastating on their day but too often "their day" didn't happen. Benji was brilliant in the League Cup Final in 2007 and really should have got the MOTM award rather than Lewis. Zemamma was a highly skilled and creative midfielder, but he lied through his teeth to the club about his former club player registration and it cost Hibs £200,000 they were not expecting to have to pay.

Encouraged to hear the reports about Slivka against Alloa and I do think big Dave Matulevicius will be an important player for us this season as Lennon clearly likes using a big target man in his teams. I think it's important though that we don't expect too much too soon from them. They will both be some way behind the rest of the squad in terms of match fitness and sharpness. It will be interesting to see how both adapt to the pace and physicality of the Scottish game. It sometimes takes a while for foreign players to get used to it.

I agree, IMO both were occasionally brilliant but ultimately a bit disappointing. I remember the buzz being that Benji in particular was an absolute world beater, and we'd pulled off a huge coup getting him.

I never got the full story there. Was it that he'd already signed a contract and then just claimed he hadn't?

He had his problems, but I absolutely loved Zemamma. The days he was on he was unplayable. The sort of player that makes the game worth watching.

That's true, I'm probably being a bit unfair and lazy lumping them in together. Ultimately I guess he had more impact than Benji?

The Moroccans were very good players, but came with baggage. I always felt the club did more for Zemmama than he did for the club. We loaned him out to be with his "young" wife, them he jumped ship to Boro at the first chance. Also during Ramadan it could be a problem with fitness. I think if the Lithuanians are given the same amount of time, they'll score more and assist more.

He was still registered with a Moroccan club called Raja Casablanca, but he insisted to Hibs that he was a free agent and after the club had checked it seemed from all sources that he was a free agent. However his club produced a certificate to prove he was still a registered player for them. Hibs therefore had to pay £200,000 to get him when he should have been a free transfer. He would have known that he was still registered to the Moroccan club.

My memory may unkind to them , but Zemmama had about 10 great games , Benji about 5. Sometimes they would only pass to each other . They wound me up
Occasionally they were worth the admission , but most of the time , they should have paid to get in like the rest of us.

Oooft, that's very harsh. Zoomer definitely had more than 10 good games. Benji was less effective but I was still gutted to see both go.

Fair point, I kind of meant as in just playing better over a larger number of games, regardless of the importance. Apart from that game my memories of Benji (which I fully admit may be flawed) are largely negative.
    so what do I know

Loved Zemmama, there was a game at Fir Park where he was absolutely unplayable. Think we won 3-1. One of the best individual performances I've seen, Deeks was good that day too.

The one where he scored that free kick into the near post from pretty much the corner flag. Brian Cox and Neil De Grasse Tyson couldnt tell you how that went in at that angle. Sublime.
