Malonga's much more likely to create something out of nothing, Stokes more reliable and likely to score the chances he gets. Prefer Malonga myself but can see why Stokes is a lot of people's choice.

Malonga got his fair share of stick when he was here. he reminded me of Steve Archibald ( wasn't world class like Archiegoal though!)
If it wasn't for Stokes double when we broke the Hun hearts , I might have went for Dom, but my heart is totally ruling my head and its Stokesy come home for me.
Also , I think Doms laid back style would have wee Lennie big time

I was a big Malonga fan...I thought he was superb for Hibs. However Stokes is a more experienced and proven goalscorer over a longer period of time in Scottish football. I would love both players to come back to be honest. Malonga was a very intelligent and creative player as well as being capable of scoring some exquisite goals.

The big Dom role will be filled by one of our Leith-uanians, so practically it needs to be Stokes...

But big Dom for me. He doesn't care about ze 'Rangers'.

Both players had their best goal to game ratio while at Hibs. Not sure how DM and NL would get on with his wee sulks at times but would be great to see him having a crack at the Premiership.

Stokes. He's just a bit special.

I LOVED big Dom, and was a tireless defender of him on here, but he played the role that Davey has been signed to perform, so let's see how the lad from Leithuania does. If he turns out to be another cult hero like DoDoDominique I'll be more than happy.

I loved Dom. A very underrated player capable of moments of absolute brilliance. That goal v Aberdeen was something special. Looking back though it's forgotten the negative side to the player. No way would Lennon tolerate it.

barring the final stokes was equally frustrating... seemingly on a different wavelength from the rest of the team.

Dom was too lightweight but had moments of class. Stokesy is in different league altogether to Dom.

Stokes by a long way. Much more reliable performer.

I liked Malonga though and he suited Hibs well at the time. Not so sure he would now.

    FAKE REPLY

Try 23 goals in a season with Hibs and two goals in a game when it REALLY mattered.

(And a fake comparison with a Stokes getting up to match fitness after months out of the game)

    FAKE REPLY

Try 23 goals in a season with Hibs and two goals in a game when it REALLY mattered.

(And a fake comparison with a Stokes getting up to match fitness after months out of the game)
zero goals in a league cup final versus ross county....(maybe that didn't REALLY matter)
zero goals in the playoff versus falkirk ....(maybe that didn't REALLY matter)

would be handy if stokes would tell us which games matter to him.

the guy is a living legend , undoubtedly ...... but for his achievements in just one game.

    Zero argument.

We don't have to mention the legend word. he's scored 131 goals in Scottish football I understand. I'm sure he's sorry that he didn't manage to score in the games you particularly required him to. He did contribute a little to winning some other trophy.

Have to laugh that a player who had a successful 1st stint then returned to score 2 goals in a cup final that ended a 114 year gap is being criticised. Might take him a few games to get match fit/sharpness but holy f!@#.

had stokes not turned up in the SC final... would peeps be as eager to have him back?

Yes. His statistics in Scotland are absolutely magnificent. It's obvious he wasn't match fit for a long time... which is why I'm concerned about him taking so long to sign.

I can't speak for others but personally I would. He's as near to a guaranteed quality goalscorer as Hibs could feasibly afford.

If Dominique was suddenly available to come back... would Neil Lennon - who's opinion is much more relevant - be eager to have him back?

I think that is a fair point, K. Clearly he won't be up to speed straight away.

I don't think he would either. I'm not dissing Dom, I liked him and thought he was talented. Not a Lennon player though I don't think.

There's not any hope or likelihood of Malonga coming back.

He's a few months younger than Stokes and, in many ways, his recent career has mirrored Stokes' own. Been at two clubs since leaving Hibs and hardly kicked a ball. Played only 9 times in the Spanish 2nd Division and scored one solitary goal. Left Italy "by mutual consent", after leaving Hibs by. erm, "mutual consent".

He's a lovely guy, gave us some nice memories but he's not coming back.

Not speculation either. A member of our household met up with him in Elche in March this year and had a nice conversation about his time at Hibs, our cup win etc. Dom commented that the new Hibs strip (then) was better than the one he wore the previous year at ER but he wouldn't be back to wear it. Offered our clansman a lift to wherever he was going (which was Alicante! ) but he politely declined, feeling that was too far out of his way to give someone a lift. Later that day, walking towards the train station in Elche, a car toots its horn and Dom winds the window down saying it was still okay to get a lift. A really nice man, indeed, When his nibs maintained that it was very kind of Dom but he would get the train, Dom waved and shouted "Mon the eebs!" and drove off.
Hibs are standing on the brink of history...
