For Stokes to give his answer? The league starts in 2 weeks and I doubt he has done much training, how quickly can he get upto speed. Come on Stokesy don't take the piss, your a legend already, a huge legend but we can't wait forever. Sign, train like a brash and come and terrify the SPL

Would give him a few more days. Basically just give us a yes or no ASAP. Would like to see us make a move for Moult. The lad scores goals and will be fit and ready to go.

There does come a point though that we need to move on and get someone in who can get upto speed quickly.

I'm amazed Hibs and stokes didn't have a deal agreed pre release

If Aberdeen's offer for Moult has been rejected, I can't see Hibs being successful. At risk of being pilloried, I would prefer Moult over Stokes.

Higher overall value when you consider resale. I agree with you, in other words.

It will all have been decided by now. Hibs will know if Stokes is coming or not and FWIW I think he will be a Hibs player.
Lennon has played the long game here because he knows he will be getting proven quality in the door and he thinks it will all be worth it.
If for whatever reason he doesn't come, then there will be alternatives which will be actioned pretty much immediately.

Fair enough. Moult had a great season for Motherwell last year and I'm sure he would be an asset for any team. Has to be said though that nobody up here had ever heard of the guy till Motherwell signed him. Lots of players are complete unknowns in England but shine when they come up to Scotland to play as the defences up here are not as tactically assured and well organised as they are in the top 2 or 3 leagues down south.

Stokes is an experienced proven goalscorer at a high level for several years and the manager knows him and knows how to get the best out of him. I've already stated on other threads what my own concerns are about Stokes but none of those doubts and concerns are to do with his ability as a striker. If he stays fit and focussed we would be getting a very accomplished goalscorer.

Just a hunch. He's free from Blackburn now. He knows what's on offer and for me too many appear to know it's happening.

Seems to me that the long (impatient) wait is about to be over. I also agree that it will have the outcome of Stokes as a Hibs player once more.

I think (if true as reported) that it would have been reasonable for Hibs to pitch their final offer and then give a time span for a response. Going further than that with ultimatums seems counterproductive to me.

Need him sooner rather than later. Can't see him being match sharp for at least a few games. Barely played at all last season, and not sure what kind of preseason he's had.

I'm with Dirty Harry here. We need the main goal scorer in the team for the opening league games. A good start is crucial to build confidence, momentum, feel good factor etc

This is another thing which is concerning, but the same goes for Dave Matu.
Both will badly need games to hone up their match sharpness.

Stokes is a legend in my eyes, but if he's serious about wanting to play for Hibs again then he should have been signed and in with the squad for this week. We need our team ready to go for the Partick game, not spending the first 2-3 games getting match fit. Season starts next Saturday, not the end of August.

Stokes has the offer in front of him. If he doesnt sign today its a reasonable deduction that his agent is trying to find a better offer from another team. Agents are snakes. Here's hoping he signs today.

i'm not sure the club are that bothered. (about when he signs)

lenny has signed two players during this period without the glare of the media or the tussle of other clubs being interested....

i would even suggest this is a welcome distraction - hibs fans aren't demanding signings, they arent criticising formations they are deliberating one single signing....NL can spout the same lines about "best fit" ... while he tries to settle in new players and youngsters and look for his best back four/back three.

personally - hope he signs soon - but happier hanlon has played 60mins.

Totally disagree. For loads of reasons Hibs will want this concluded ASAP.

If a deal's to be done I suspect it will have been done today or tomorrow.

There's a big feel good factor around the place just now with the Leithuanian signings and last night's emphatic victory.

I can see the surprise unveiling of Stokes tomorrow or Friday or maybe even Monday as a final push on season tickets before the season starts.

It's payday tomorrow for a lot of folk and others through to Monday.

Sorry but I really hate such daft comments. Anthony Stokes is a professional footballer. He's out to get the best possible deal he can. If he wasn't bothered about coming here he wouldn't even be in negotiations. He'd be talking to others who can pay much much more than we can. However, as he is in negotiations with us it appears he would like to come here. And rightly he and Hibs are trying to get the best deal for each respective party.

If he did sign ,brilliant but what would be more brilliant would be Hibs getting off tae a flying start in the league, which is rapidly approaching, wi' a settled team. Legend that he is there must come a point where Lennon says that's it and move on. Final offers been on the table for a while now and if he's serious aboot coming tae Hibs and resurrecting his career I thought he would have signed by now. I'm sure everybody would like tae see all our squad up tae speed before kick off and stokes hasn't played much lately so if he is coming he needs tae make his mind up rapid

Not a daft comment, my opinion which I'm quite f##kin entitled to
And we put up our comments on here that gives others the opportunity to comment on. I gave my opinion on your opinion. Like your opinion I'm entitled to mine.

Was really hoping the scarf would have been over the head by now and as everyday passes from now it seems more and more unlikely that stokes will end up signing or no
The offer is on the table and has been for days at least according to reports and I understand that there's now fans doubting his commitment to hibs
I really hope he does sign along with henderson which would be one of the best transfer window I can remember

Stokes has asked for time to consider the offer and a decision is not expected from him until next week.

Kenny Millar is using his own twitter as click bait for a S*n article saying Stokes wants time to consider the offer. Says his decision not expected till next week.

They make no money online so it's a pretty pointless protest denying viewing of their online version. They can't and they won't find a way of monetising their online content.

Here's the problem.....even if Stokes does sign for Hibs eventually (and even I am beginning to have my doubts now), we are going to get a player who hasn't played a competitive game for many months, who has missed the entire pre-season training schedule with the club, and missed all of our pre-season matches. He will therefore need a lot of time to get up to speed, get his fitness levels up to the required standard so he is fit enough to play top level football in Scotland, and also, as a striker he will need several matches to get his sharpness in front of goal up. He now apparently wants to wait till next week to make a decision. Our first game of the season is a week on Saturday. Perhaps I was being a tad naïve in thinking this had actually all been decided and it was only a matter of time before it was announced. Lennon really does have to make a decision on this pretty much now IMO.

I'm in the camp of rather wait than cancel the deal. Much rather a proven goal scorer than some unknown. If we moved for someone like Moult, I'd be even happier.

He should have a full week training with the team before the first game of the season. If I was Hibs, i'd give him until tomorrow to decide and if he's still not fully committed to playing for Hibs, we should move on to other targets. He's known for ages about our interest in him.

So I'm guessing as soon as the season starts we should stop looking at players? Since nobody should be joining after game 1.

I get that that's what we all want, but that's not how the window works to begin with. Players have an unbelievable lack of loyalty on the whole and he doesn't owe us a thing, if he's taking his time then let him.

Murray can keep trying to prove himself in the meantime along with big Matu

Mmm, I'm largely sympathetic with this view.

In the end, the question is this:

"Can we start the season in good shape without Anthony Stokes, and take the risk on losing out altogether?"

If the club believes that's our position, then it's fine - we can wait for the right deal, rather than merely looking for 'a' deal. But if you believe we need another striker, then it's best to move on and find another option before the inevitable gazump that happens two days before the window slams shut.

If we let it go on for another 4 weeks then it's our own fault anyway.
And Stokes is a free agent, window won't shut on signing him til near November. (hopefully not an option)
