    Strongest team so far?

Been a fair bit of anxiety over the summer but the squad is slowly coming together.

What would be our best starting XI? Mine is a 3-5-2 reverting to 5-3-2. Its an old fashioned setup but suits the defensive players we have and one that stood us good in Cup final. Whittaker & Swanson would give us quality out wide. Think it's Lennon's favoured formation too.

    Marciano

    McGregor, Ambrose, Hanlon

    Whittaker, McGinn, Bartley, McGeouch, Swanson

    Matu, S. Murray

    SUBS

Laidlaw, Gray, Stevenson, Boyle, F Murray, Shaw

Bit brutal leaving out both of our hero full backs but no way will Whittaker be sitting on the bench. Stevenson in for Bartley when playing bottom 6 teams.

Bit harder to choose a team now.

    Marciano
    Whittaker McGregor Hanlon Stevenson
    Boyle McGinn Bartley McGeouch Swanson
    Murray

Dunno much about Matty so I can't honestly pick him ahead of any of the 3 in midfield.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Whittaker played in central midfield as Lennon was talking up his ability to play in midfield in the press when he signed. He may be the Fyvie replacement plus right & left full back cover hence Lennon's quote of '3 players in 1'.

He'd have to take Bartley's place in the team though surely?
    Big, athletic and strong.

I have no idea tbh but I wouldn't expect him to be the ball carrier Fyvie was?

Sorry I should have been clearer; I'm not meaning a direct like-for-like replacement for Fyvie, I just reckon he might play in central midfield since Lennon was saying he is 'excellent' in midfield.

It's a certainty he'll start at right back vs Partick though since Sir David is suspended.

I'd like to see Ambrose used in the Bartley position during our friendly games. I think he could be a big presence and player for us in the middle.

Friendly games? There are none now?

If we assume that Stokes is going to sign then I think he will play three up front for home games against the middle to bottom six clubs with Matu leading the line and Stokes and Murray either side. In order to get some idea of how things will pan out you really just have to look at Lennon's Celtic team and the shape and type of players he used. Lennon has been schooled in the Martin O'Neill style of tactical thinking. A big experienced and physically powerful spine running through the team...Matu, Bartley/Whittaker, Ambrose/McGregor and Rocky. Flair, pace and goals to support this solid spine, and very importantly players who can deliver effective set-pieces which play an increasingly important part in the modern game. Hence his interest in bringing Commons back and still likely interest in Henderson. Danny Swanson can also take good set-pieces and will certainly be our penalty taker this season as he scored nine penalties for St Johnstone last season.

We still have a month and half to go of this transfer window and the squad still requires a few more additions. There may still be one or two unexpected departures and one or two who are expected. Graham could move on as could Danny Handling.

Things hopefully beginning to take shape now though and one things for sure, it will be Neil Lennon's team own team we will see next season.

Yep I know. Would have been nice if he'd been available to play in them. I'd class the games against Arbroath and Alloa as friendlies we could try it out in. Just think he has the skill and ability to possibly fill that role if needs be.
