Hibernian 4 v 0 Montrose - opening game of the season

In 1875s absence, I continue the routine of a pre-match thread on the eve of the game. It's the wee cup tomorrow and we will all be hoping Hibs get off to a good start. It's a topic for another thread but already people are questioning the wisdom of a competitive season beginning in July when folks are on holiday, just back from holiday and where teams in the South East of Scotland have ended up travelling to daft places like Dingwall having been placed in the North section. I expect the line up that started against Sunderland will start again tomorrow and, although we have not finished our business in the transfer market, a team containing Super John Mcginn should see off Montrose regardless.

I met one of the .net stalwarts at Berwick who said something along of the lines of "I'm old school. I just go and watch Hibs"

    Can't argue with that really.

    Cannae wait.

I honestly can't remember when I last choose not to go when I could go... However, for tomorrow I have decided to do something else.

I don't like the new League Cup format. Outside of European competitions which we can do nothing about IMO we should not be having competitive matches in Scotland in the middle of July. It's still pre-season for clubs in this country, and I reckon most teams will still be looking at these matches as pre-season games albeit with a competitive edge. Many people are still on holiday and that will affect the gate. This is one of the many reasons why I have always opposed summer football in this country.

Anyway, onto the game. Danny Swanson is suspended so as SKII said I reckon it will be the same team as started against Sunderland minus Danny S. Hibs should have too much for Montrose and I fully expect us to win tomorrow. We are still 5 players short of the full squad and by the time we play Partick Thistle on August 5th I expect us to more or less have the full squad together for the season. Having said that, I like the drama of the last day of the window so I hope we are still in the hunt for another signing then.

    2-0 Hibs

Gray and Stevenson are still defenders.
That's assuming Boyle playing as a striker and Fraser Murray as an attacking mid

Any SPL strikers should really look at this group stage as a chance to pad out the goal stats for a season. Sure waghorn made his season look half respectable last year doing that.

I think Murray is going to be really good for us. I think he will get more than 15 this year.

Never made it today due to work, quite a disappointing crowd by the sounds of it but with this daft league cup set up starting in July making them basically pre-season games it's kinda to be expected, might have been more appealing for people that could've made it but decided against it if they knocked another fiver of the ticket price too

Agree with previous reports - the lad Porteous at the back looks very accomplished.

Hearing Graham got booed from some Hibs fans on his way up to take the penalty. That really happen? Disappointed if it did.

There were some boos, fair play to Graham went to get the ball to take it as soon as it was given, made a decent job of sticking it in the corner

I enjoyed the match and now being within walking distance of Easter Road. I think their keeper kept the scoreline from being a rout. There was rightly so some trepidation as Brian Graham stepped up to take the penalty kick. However he did make some decent touches holding up the ball.

Thought Graham done quite well when he came on.

I didn't boo him, although I ducked when he took the penalty.
