    Lightbulb Hibernian: The "big-game" team.

It's a strange world we live in, but it appears Hibs have managed to get themselves on the brink of the title due to performing when it mattered. The frustration of not putting away smaller teams has made this season a bit tougher when we should have ran away with it, but here are some numbers (feel free to check 'em, they might be a bit off) that are interesting:

    Hibernian Vs Falkirk: P4, W3, D1, L0
    Hibernian Vs Morton: P2, W1, D1, L0
    Hibernian Vs Dundee Utd: P4, W2, D1, L1

    Falkirk Vs Hibernian: P4, W0, D1, L3
    Falkirk Vs Dundee Utd: P3, W2, D0, L1
    Falkirk Vs Morton: P3, W0, D2, L1

    Dundee Utd Vs Hibernian: P4, W1, D1, L2
    Dundee Utd Vs Falkirk: P3, W1, D0, L2
    Dundee Utd Vs Morton: P3, W1, D2, L0

    Morton Vs Hibernian: P2, W0, D1, L1
    Morton Vs Dundee Utd: P3, W0, D2, L1
    Morton Vs Falkirk: P3, W1, D2, L0

Therefore, in the matches between the top four (Champions and playoff contenders), the league would look like this:

    Hibernian: 21 points
    Dundee Utd: 12 points
    Falkirk: 9 points
    Morton: 8 points

Ultimately, it's in the big games against our competitors where we've done the most damage. Falkirk and Morton combined couldn't match our points total amongst the top four, and Dundee United are in the mix with the other two. Even if we lost both games to Morton, and all other fixtures went against us, nobody could catch our points total. In previous seasons in the Championship we matched Hearts (P4, W1, D2, L1) and bettered 'Rangers' (P8, W5, D0, L3, not including the traded playoff wins), with Hearts shading the matches between them; comparing us in that season would have also seen us on top; and while we shared points with 'Rangers' last year... Well, we won the Scottish Cup. It might be worth remembering both of our cup performances, too.

In the end, the suggestion is that Hibs are well equipped for better sides and struggle when teams simply sit in. We all know, or at least suspected, that to be the case - but I didn't realise just how large an impact the big games have had this season. In the Premiership, whether it's a question of mentality or tactics, that'll hopefully mean we do just fine when sides are simply trying to avoid a thumping.

Perhaps even more importantly, perhaps we've finally broken the big game curse that's plagued us for as long as I can remember (over thirty years now, a relative junior compared to some on here).

    Fingers crossed.

I really do not understand the fear with some Hibees anymore.

    We are a different club.

    Thankyou, Alan Stubbs.

I'm with you on this. I remain concerned about our inability to score, but I think it's a diagnosable problem of not having effective wingers / wing backs to stretch parked defences plus less than stellar strikers and without a suitable partner for our good one. We are much better in an open game and I don't think we will struggle in the top flight even unchanged - and we will be changed. Sevco are third and hearts were doing fine until their over-inflated opinion of themselves caused them to turn on neilson and bring in the hapless Cathro. Lennon is building on the improvement in toughness that Stubbs brought to big games: he has not cracked it yet, but we are making progress contra the 'going backward' views.

What's worse is that I think that fear has transmitted from the stands to the pitch at times.

There really is no discernible need for fear anymore - if there ever was. It's high time a new attitude and culture was bought into around our club and people started talking up the many good points rather than focusing on past negatives. The latter can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy and I feel has been. If things are not going to plan, supporters and sometimes players heads have gone down way too quickly and there is absolutely no need for it. The opposition must love it when it happens, it does their job for them.

We are Hibs, we can do much better than that.

Confidence breeds success. What is a overdue is a more positive psychology around the club and it's supporters and - dare I say - more of a 'Whae's like us?' attitude. As long as it is coupled with hard work, exemplified by 100% graft and dedication it's absolutely fine.

I think our 'good one' is absolutely a stellar striker, certainly at this level and to be proven at a higher one. Sure, he has some limitations but strikers are there to score goals and Jason scores them in abundance. He doesn't understand how not to score goals - a total natural and so very rare. So very many clubs would be ecstatic to have him.

Big game mentality saw us achieve wonders in cup & big matches last season. It'll see us promoted and retain the Scottish Cup thos year. Big games, big mentality. Unlike the other "Big Team" with their losers mentality.
