Hibernian won the League Cup defeating Kilmarnock 5-1 in the final at Hampden. Lewis Stevenson won his first cup winning medal with Hibs that day and of course he became the first Hibs player ever to win both a League Cup and Scottish Cup winners medal with the club last May. Many fans may disagree with me but that match is still for me the finest Hibs team performance I have seen at Hampden in my lifetime. We were favourites but there was a lot of pressure on us, but mainly due to brilliant preparation work from John Collins in the build-up to the game, the team produced a dazzling performance of power, speed and clinical finishing to win the League Cup for the third time. Our Scottish Cup win last May surpassed anything that had gone before in terms of drama, history-making, excitement, emotion and achievement, but the overall team performance we put on that day at Hampden in March 2007 was quite exceptional.

I went to the match with my sister who was 6 months pregnant at the time !..we were in the east stand right behind the goals where Hibs banged in four great efforts in that memorable second half. Fantastic feeling seeing Hibs win that cup after several disappointments before. That superb young Hibs side, put together by Tony Mowbray, deserved to win a trophy. I was so pleased that the loyal Hibs fans were rewarded that day and the open-top bus parade at night was fantastic. Like so many others, I had hoped that the League Cup win would have been the start of something special for Hibs as a club, instead it was the end of something special. Our seven year decline started that very day and ended in relegation in 2014. The player revolt against Collins was the catalyst for that decline and unfortunately we paid a very high price for negligence, complacency and small-thinking as a club thereafter.

Cherish these memories. I've only ever seen Hibs win 3 cups.

    Where does the time go?

An amazing day. The whole team were superb and a very good early Andy McNeil save is often forgotten. Benji was incredible that day. Unfortunately, it was the end of the good times we had had since the summer 2004. From that moment afterwards in 2007 onwards until relegated 2014 we were a shambles on and off the park.

Good times did continue for a wee bit longer as Collins had us top in October IIRC with early season wins over the scumbos and both halves of the old firm. All went pear-shaped from then onwards though and JC was offsky

Benji was unplayable that day, in the build up to 1 of his goals he confused their defender so much that he had to re-sit his Standard Grades.

Great day & a brilliant performance.

It was a very unhappy camp at that time.
