Persevered: How we smashed the biggest curse in football

I was delighted my wife bought me Aidan Smith's book for christmas, Persevered:

Persevered :: Sport :: Birlinn Ltd.

I finished reading this last night, what a fantastic read.

Aidan is a first class writer who in writing this book pens something that comes straight from his heart as a life long Hibs fan.

The book is wonderfully constructed, covering the twists and turns of our long journey to win the holy grail and just what it meant for us as Hibs fans to finally complete that journey on the slopes of Hampden on the 21st May this year.

There are great insights in the book. Aidan also took the trouble to meet with so many who were responsible for the long journey to lifting the cup.

I can't recommend this book highly enough, it is something that will be long treasured and much like the cup final DVD will be savoured for time to come.

Good post Skye... was starting to get a bit bored of the books coming out on the Hibs, thoughts T.Bracks were pretty poor tbh, so I am quite glad there is a good book on the Hibs.

    Will defs purchase.

I'll let Aiden know that the book is well received when I see him in the boozer.

Was Smith the chappie who became a gunt for a year? No way is he getting my cash.

    Cheers
He did indeed become unhinged for a season. Bought that book. Not too impressed with it.
    But.......
May give him a second chance.

Flip side is, anyone who drinks from Dubs sweaty slipper may not be the full whack?

T'was indeed. It was a decent read as well where he spent a lot of time bemoaning the fact that he was watching $#@!e while Riordan was in his pomp. Bit much to disregard the guy just because he spent a year researching a book imo especially when he is a dyed in the wool Hibby. Each to their own though.

Worked in the same place as him for a few years and in wee chats in the canteen always gave time and found him to be a sound bloke.

If I remember correctly, he got quite into the spams towards the end of the experiment.

I skimmed through it and haven't actually read it but I was quite amazed ie appalled by some of the photaes.

    The Greatest ever Airdrie team.
Celtic and Aberdeen from the 1920's
    Clyde 1958
"Hammer of the Hibs "Dixie Deans" of Celtic
    "Scotland's Shame 1872".
Hennrick and unbelievably Rudi Fkn Skacel.

The theme obviously being cup final defeats.

I make it 11 photos representing cup final defeats and only 9 photos of that glorious day.

Someone somewhere is laughing their heid off and rightly so.It might read better than it looks. One can only hope.

I'm sure he's a nice bloke but his strange revelling in failure and the related warrior poets pish is everything that was wrong with Hibs, which I am bloody glad was vanquished on 21/05/16.

As far as I can gather he seems to feel we found some collective identity in failure, well count me out.

It's a shame Smith wrote that book about a season with the tramps, it's a significant blemish on what's clearly a decent written who loves Hibs. Had a wee chat with him outside Robbies during the mayhem of the 21st, he was clearly in the same zone as the rest of us.

I got the book, will read it once I've finished Springsteens, which is excellent.
