It's better that this is done now...the lad has been playing his heart out through the pain barrier in recent weeks but there comes a point when the repair has to be done and that point has now arrived. This presents Neil Lennon and his team with IMO it's biggest challenge of the season and we as fans just have to hope they can come up with a strategy which can cope successfully with the loss of our best and most creative midfielder for the best part of 3 months. We must win every week to get this league won and with John McGinn now being sidelined for the immediate future there is no getting away from the fact that achieving that level of consistency becomes that bit more difficult. IMO Lennon will probably have to alter the shape and the playing style of the team in order to overcome this significant loss to the team. How he does this is the subject for another thread and another debate.

Let's just hope we can keep on winning whatever system they come up with...and let's just hope we don't lose any more of our key players to long term injuries in this most important of seasons in our club's history.

Get better soon John and haste ye back !

Up to 12 weeks out. Bugger!

Yup. hopefully this is why McGeough has been wrapped in cotton wool lately. On his game he can be the equal of Super.

How much longer before Keats is back? If Dubs info is guff, we could be without 3 of our most influential players at a crucial stage of the season.

Some people are suggesting Fyvie is out for 6 weeks. If true it's a bit of a disaster going in to very important fixtures over Dec and Jan. 2 games v United included! Praying McGeouch stays fit as he will be essential. Don't fancy our resultant midfield without the 3 of them much!

Lennon said at the AGM a few weeks ago that they had been preparing for McGinn's imminent operation by resting Dylan McGeogh as they wanted him to be fully fit to take over when McGinn was out. Personally, I'm not convinced McGeogh is up to that job. Not because he isn't a good player..he certainly is.. it's just that I don't think he can do the job McGinn does on the pitch and he has virtually no goal threat at all. I also think he is too unreliable in terms of his own fitness issues. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.

Did Lennon not say at the week-end that he was confident Fyvie would be ready for the Dundee United game ? I'm sure I read that somewhere. James Keatings must be near to getting some game time in the Development team. Hopefully he can be back soon because as I have said ad nauseum we cannot afford to have too many key players out long term in this most important of seasons.

Fyvie out for 6 weeks? FCUK. This game at Tannadice suddenly looks very lose-able. Maybe I'm just feeling a bit doomy today, though.

I'm not as fussed about Fyvie. I think Bartley's strength and tenacity will be more use against United (Tony Andreu specifically) than what Fraser brings defensively; and unlike most weeks we will need to defend in this game.

If Dylan is fit we should have enough to get 3 points.

Getting a bit sick of McGeouch, if I'm honest. I know it's not the lad's fault, but players who play one game every three months are no fcuking use to anybody.

I'm amazed that it's being mooted as some kind of "strategy" to have been "resting" Dylan with SJM's op in mind - is there anybody here who is confident that Dylan won't play about 65mins on Friday then be out for fcukin 6 weeks himself?

It is frustrating that Dylan can't be 100% but I think he's made a massive contribution to our club. A certain May day for starters...

I'm wondering if there is some way that we can re-call Sam Stanton from his loan arrangement with Dumbarton ? I'm not for one moment saying he will be the answer to our problem but he is a good creative player and given the amount of important matches we have coming up minus two of our best midfielders, it would at least give the manager further options and add some more depth to the squad. If this option is available I would not be at all surprised if Lennon goes for it. We are going to need all hands to the pump over the December/January period.

It's all about opinions but don't under estimate Fyvie's worth to our team. It was no coincidence our form suffered when he got injured last winter.Bartley is a good choice for certain games, Fyvie is suited for every game imo, Him and McGinn out is a MASSIVE blow for us, this is a real test of our depth, resolve and quality.

Bartley will be back if Fraser is out. I pay to watch players like Fraser Fyvie, Marvin spoils the game for me, but does what he is asked to do.

    I love Dylan.
Like the Squirrel, Liam Henderson, Sir David, Darren and Two Medsls, some players just 'fit' Hibs.
I realise that Dylan and fit rarely appear in the same sentence without being separated by 'barely/un/ not yet/ may be soon ...... but he's proper Hibs.

Correct, Fyvie is one of the most underrated and under valued players at our club. He's a fantastic player and we are a much better side with him in midfield. When we have Fyvie, McGinn and McGeough all playing together we really play some terrific football.

It was no coincidence our form suffered when he got injured last winter.Bartley is a good choice for certain games, Fyvie is suited for every game imo, Him and McGinn out is a MASSIVE blow for us, this is a real test of our depth, resolve and quality.
Hmmmm.I have to admit I am critical of Fyvie, perhaps too harshly. I think it's because he is clearly talented but little flaws in his game really irritate me. Slack passing is the main thing. I don't know if I focus on him doing it more than other players because of gaffs I've really been annoyed with in the past but he loses possession far too often for my liking.

I know what you mean, two slack passes last season v the Huns cost us goals and in one case probably the game. Probably blinkered my opinion of the guy (unfairly perhaps) as he's been excellent in many other games.

I agree about Fyvies slack passing and there's a few round me are quick to criticise.

However every now and again his slack balls are pieces of genius to players who aren't where they should be or for no apparent reason don't continue a run. Quite often I see what he's trying and good on him for trying! But it is frustrating when it's just a $#@!e baw!

I would love for Scott Martin to get his chance. If/When Dylan ends up injured obviously.

Yes he can be guilty of giving the ball away but I think that's due to the fact he is one of the few players who actually looks to get on the ball as often as possible. He always shows for it and works hard to get in a position to receive the ball from a team mate. A lot of fans either don't see this part of his game or refuse to recognise it IMO.

I am dreading the thought of playing a couple of months without McGinn and Fyvie. Now is the time for squad fringe players to step up to the plate, alternatively we make a signing or two in January.

Right - has anyone actually seen/heard any official information on Fyvie? Or are we still in an @hibbybilly style "I'm hearing" scenario?

Yes. He told me at the West of Scotland persevered tour night night he done his abductor in and will be out for 5 to 6 weeks.
    Its Liam Henderson to deliver...
And David Gray has scored! The captain!

Very. He said he'd been playing with it for a few games and got a bit of stick of Lennon for it! Seems a nice guy, chatted away for a good while.

Season defining period coming up starting with a game away to our biggest challengers. Injuries never come at a good time but really both these couldn't have come at a worse time.
This will test Neil Lennon and highlight his management skills one way or another.
I still feel positive and confident, just don't relish being without two of our most influential players for at least two months.

Apart from SJM, Fyvie is my favourite player just now, and along with SJM, Hanlon and McGregor the most essential. To lose both at the same time is grim.
