Just back...........Hibernian FC, Scottish Cup Winners 2016

Today started by me heading down to Turnhouse at 7 this morning to pick up Nabser from Waterford via Dublin. Into Glasgow Southside for a pre match party, onto Hampden to watch our football team become legends, home to Livingston, drop off the bairns and Dr Shrink, then take our bus to Turnhouse to drop Nabser back off for his Dublin flight home. Onto Leith for beers and home again and just watched the highlights and yes, I can confirm Hibernian FC are Scottish Cup winners 2016. So good I am about to watch it again after watching it twice already.

So to our team, they were magnificent, to a man, to a woman, they gave their all, they found the holy grail, they brought the cup home.

The team above destroyed a hoodoo, these people made Hibstory today, they should never have to pay for a drink in our city again. Each and everyone one of you, I thank you from the depths of my soul.

Now lets talk about us, the fans. WE are Hibernian FC, the 24000 Hibs fans today witnessed history, a history we didnae dare to dream off. I know others will be critical of the end of the game, let them be.

Me, I could not give a chuff. Out football club, our bonnie bhoys won us the cup, I will love these people for the rest of my life, thank you, thank you, thank you.

So, my Just backs come to an end of this season, and it has been the happiest report I have ever filed for the bounce, our team, your team, my team today made themselves Hibernian Legends, they will go down in Hibstory as the people that finally won THAT cup for us and for that I once again thank them.

I love you, Mark. I love everyone here. I love this team, and this club. I was in tears today, surrounded by Dundee United friends who hugged me from the first moment I saw them until the final whistle. I love them too.

    God love you all.

Since I've no been able to go to ER your reports have been a great insight into how the team are really playing.

But TBH I wasn't bothered if you did one today or not. But you gave a perfect summary again.

I'm watching it for the third time again too. Gray just scored and I'm delighted again.

I'm going to be smiling for a week!!!!

Magnificent team performance from Hibs today. Stokes was fantastic, the Rangers just couldn't cope with him. Fyvie and McGeogh outstanding in midfield. Hanlon, McGregor and Fontaine superb in central defence. Logan hardly had a save to make...the two hun goals were excellent and had no chance with either. At 2-1 down with 10 minutes to go I still felt confident we could get an equaliser. The energy shown by the team in the last 15 minutes was just incredible. We attacked them relentlessly in the last 15 mins with the Henderson introduction being crucial, and we got our just rewards with that memorable winning goal from captain courageous David Gray. That feeling when the final whistle blew was quite something.

Yes, we've done it. We have finally landed the Scottish Cup and I just think now that triumph will be a pivotal moment for the future of our club.

You nailed that perfectly with your finest 'Just back" report ever in the face of strong competition from many others.

    Thank you.

Thanks for all your Just Back reports. Even when I've been to the game or watched on Hibs TV I still love coming on here to read your match thread. As for the players, not one of them played badly today. David Gray is a warrior!! The tackle on Shiels near the end was superb, gets hurt but carries on then scores the winner, unbelievable. Henderson's deliveries are superb, we'll miss him next season. Hope we work out a deal for him. Stokes was magnificent!! Every one of our boys was $#@!in superb!! Stubb's subs and tactical changes were spot on.

    WE DID IT!!!!!

You missed one more comment 1875
"Just Back Reports" - Legend, you will never know how welcome it is to read your game reports for us supporters who can not make it every week. Hopefully we can have a few more days like today but if not so what for one year we are, SCOTTISH CUP CHAMPIONS just saying that name seems so right.
    So once again thank you.

    Legends and heros.

A special mention to the heros that are the support. We took on the sevcovians and won that battle too. The last 15 minutes we were super supporters and I'm sure our 11 representatives on the pitch responded to that.

Huge thanks @1875. As with all other far flung Hibbies on here, your excellent Just Backs have become the first point of reference for me. And you've nailed the latest. Legends, each & every single member of staff who made that happen yesterday.

Congratulations on being fit and able to post your "Just Back" within hours, Mark. As you said, these people are all legends now. A fitting end to a long hard season, for me made all the sweeter by the fact it was "them" we beat - and beat them we did, no luck, no dodgy decisions, just a proper beating.

The best report of your career and the rest are none too shabby. First time I ever shed a tear at a game was yesterday, more for better people than me who never got see us do it.

1875's SC Cup Final 2016 Just back - a legend!

I have a lump in my throat now that it's sinking in. This last 15 minutes were certainly legendary.

Leith walk was certainly bouncing last night!

Looking forward to the parade now.

I keep saying it; 2016 Scottish Cup Final winners - Hibernian FC

For all of those that doubted Stubbsy , the man is a Hibs legend and as Mark said everyone one of them are Hibs legends, AS & CO rabbit out of a hat saved his best game for the last especially agains that shower of scum, let's get behind the management, he knows he made mistakes but he will learn from it, we are already in the recruitment process for next season, emotional day was yesterday how proud I was to watch my team lift the cup when so many times we have came away feeling missrable, Our end was rocking and it's a tribute to everyone of us.

    Just back....

Just back - ha ha only kidding. Just got back for the Leith Links party; that was good fun. Got a good view of the bus at the top of Leith Walk. McGeouch, Cummings, and McGinn in particular were loving it.

Parade was fantastic this afternoon in great weather. Was in the middle of the road in Leith Walk at the junction with Pilrig Street with my sister and my nephew and niece. Phenomenal crowds up and down Leith Walk. Got to the Leith Links party and had a great time. I thought the music from the bus could have been a bit louder so more of the assembled fans could hear it and join in more with SOL and others.

    Some week-end this has been..

I have watched the winning goal about 278 times now. What a header it was, by the way!

But what struck me about that footage, now that the dust has begun to settle a bit, is the explosion in the stands. It was utterly phenomenal, the whole place just fcukin erupted. I think at that moment - even more than the final whistle, IMO, cos this was when we really knew we'd done it, even if we wouldn't consciously admit it - you really do feel all the hurt come out. Everything that's been pent up for so long, all this season's kicks in the baws, all the baw-booting of 114 years, just comes rushing out. It's like a dam breaking, just this massive tidal wave of emotion. True catharsis, the very dictionary definition of catharsis.

I fancy watching it again now. How about youse? Scroll to 5.37 for SCENES:

It was truly a beautiful, beautiful day. My memories of the game itself are just a total blur. But walking across the grass on the way out of the ground, in the glorious sunshine, will live with me forever. Drinking posh champers on the bus back, and banging on the windaes as we rolled through Gorgie will live with me forever. (Thanks and great work to @southfieldhibby on that front, made my day so ye did. You an aw, @tricky ) Bumping into my Uncle James outside Robbie's on Saturday night. Folk climbing in the windaes to get in. Hugging random strangers. Rolling up at the Arty at about 11.30am yesterday to find it already jumping. My maw bringing my daughter down to meet me for the parade, and hailing that bus in the glorious sunshine. Standing in the links and thinking it was like the best version of T in the Park conceivable. These are the things that will stay with me forever, and no amount of Hun bleating can take them away from me, or any of the other 21,500 Hibees with whom I shared what has basically been the best. weekend. ever.

So while my memories of the game are a blur, I'll always have YouTube for that. But the memories now crystallised in my memory, I can take anywhere, and they'll be with me until the day I die. It has been a special, special weekend.

Get busy livin', or get busy dyin'...

This video from the press box of the winning goal is superb.

Look out for John Doolan's celebration.

One of my mates watching on the telebox made the point that when the 4 minutes more sign went up, our end cheered while the vile hoards sat quietly. It really was our day.
Every now and then i just keep bursting out laughing followed by a lump in the throat. How long can euphoria last before its unhealthy?

You could do a lot worse than listening to the commentary on the Hibs TV highlights, absolutely classic, including this pearl at full time:

"Hibs have won the Scottish Cup! It's been 114 years, now it hasn't even been 114 seconds!"

The Hibs TV commentary is superb. My favourite part is when we score the winner, the co-commentator (Connor Rafferty) just screams 'NO DANGER!!!'

    Excellent stuff.

Lucky enough not to be at work today, drinking champagne that my jambo twin brother gave to me after the game. It tastes superb and I just can't stop watching the goals over and over.
one regret, I refused to go the game thinking I could not go through the torment again, shame on me. It must have been pretty special being at the game, it's been a very special weekend regardless.

Newcastle and Hibs double for Championship winners 16-17, £30 about to be placed.
@1875, perfect report, Well done for this and every other one.

Stubbs got that game spot on in every shape and form.
Our formation was spot on , subs where spot on and well time.
TV pundits do talk some pish at times.
And the key to the game , was Balls absense and it was exploited like a dream.
    Enjoy your Holidays.

Back home now; going to watch whole thing on Sky tonight!

Oh by the way; I decided to hang my scarf out the window and I got pipped three times on the way back down south; once just before the Metro Centre just outside of Newcastle. Whoever it was; up the Hibees!

These are the things that will stay with me forever, and no amount of Hun bleating can take them away from me, or any of the other 21,500 Hibees with whom I shared what has basically been the best. weekend. ever.

I know it's hard mate, but try not to beat yourself up over that. I know several Hibs fans who did the same thing for the same reason. My sister and my nephew for starters. I go to the matches with my 14 year old nephew but he has been so disappointed being at three cup final defeats in 3 years that he couldn't face another one despite much prompting from myself. They both came to the parade so at least took part in the celebrations. He is a wee bit down about it though. I told him I was sure he would see Hibs winning the cup again in his lifetime. For what it's worth, as far as I am concerned every Hibernian supporter living or dead was at Hampden on Saturday when the third goal went in and the final whistle blew.

You know, I was thinking to myself this morning, I was ready to give Stubbs the bullet after the Falkirk league capitulation.

I hereby admit, I was wrong. To be able to lift those players after that sickening playoff defeat is some feat, and highly commendable. And to get it so tactically right on the day, and bring us home the grail, well - he's earned my unending gratitude.

    Thanks, Alan.
