When did Cinders turn into cinders?

Anyone remember when Cinderella Rockafellas night club in St Stephen Street burnt down. We had a debate about this in the pub tonight and my mates wives think it was in 1989. I think it was a lot later than that and so does one of my mates [based on us staying right across the street from it] but I can't find anything on theinformationsuperhighway to tell me either way.

    Anyone know?

I'm struggling with it being in the late 80s. I bought my flat on 1st January 1989 and I had at least one christmas in it before I buggered off to londinium for a few years working and I was in London when the fire happened. I'm still convinced it was the early 90's rather than the late 80's. You have a grounding in architecture [I think] so you should be able to find out. Get on it Col, you're letting the side down man

Last time I was there was 9th July 1987, my 30th birthday. Great night. There was a deal on that you could buy Cinders money, 1 bought you 3 or 4 cinders pounds! It was midweek but apart from us hardly any others were there.

Wiznae my fault but I didn't think it lasted much longer after that.

According to this Dub it burned down in 93. But Cinder's was defo gone before that. It must have shut down before it went up in smoke

Cinders was a superb place. Especially when you had a work-mate as top bouncer. I never got lucky in there, but the chicken in a basket was superb. Was deeply saddened at the memories and japes that were lost when that $#@! burnt it down for `s.

Cat`s Pyjama`s was really dark. Gothy even, but score in there? Only had to turn up. Music was good, atmosphere was desperate, and sober or not, you could walk into pillars `n tables it was that dark.
Painted black inside mostly didnae help.
Will never forget, FIND TOILET. COME OUT OF TOILET. AIM FOR THE RECTANGULAR LIGHT BIT THAT IS THE BAR. If you didn`t fall over $#@! first.

Back to Cinders tho`. I wish there were more interior pics of that place, it was epic with it`s cheap carpets and LED light tubing to make you feel special.
That, and the many bars within.

Goingback even further...docs era maybe? My mum who is over 80, is sure that the white building which seems dis used to the left of the cargo in Tollcross was the Palais. (I always thought it looked like an old cinema) Anyone know why it just stands there with no for sale sign...is it storing stuff? listed building? seems strange just waiting for something to happen

Cinderellas was definitely still there in 1986 that's for sure....I was in there one memorable Saturday night in May of that year with my mates celebrating a certain result at Dens Park that afternoon...

Yep...and it later evolved into The Good time Emporium.
In the late 70's it was a rock venue with various punk bands playing there

Cinderellas was definitely still there in 1986 that's for sure....I was in there one memorable Saturday night in May of that year with my mates celebrating a certain result at Dens Park that afternoon...- - - Updated - - -Yep...and it later evolved into The Good time Emporium. In the late 70's in was a rock venue with various punk bands playing there
I remember it but it had abad reputation. Mate at the time got stabbed through the hand there - which was a problem as he was a drummer.
