    Another casualty of the internet

BBC News - Blockbuster files for bankruptcy in US

Video shops are largely gone generally now I think about it. Haven't been to one myself for years IIRC

My kids like a wee visit to blockbuster, the wee man gets a DS game, Rosie gets a movie.I really prefer to get things from shops over the t'internet whether it's movies, golf balls or whatever, the web is slowly killing the high street, not good imo.

Im sure its the inet that has done for them, but also the price of DVDs in the shops are now so low I usually just buy them so I can watch them when I like

Yip. Between, Lovefilm, Fopp, and torrents (which I tend to only use for tele) I haven't even glanced at a video shop for years now.

Blockbuster have got absolutely battered by Netflix in the US I believe.

Ditto to the call on Netflix.

I have a Blockbuster card that has not been used for 5 years directly because of Netflix.

Correct, and also by RED BOX who have automated DVD vending machines at every Supermarket with films for $1 a night. Blockbuster were $4- $5 per night and a distance away.

Blockbuster has entered the "Red Box" market with "Blockbuster Express". I have both within walking distance.

Not been in years, bit of a f*ck up really, they should have anticipated how people were going to consume their media and invested heavily in the online rental market.

Got a love film unlimited account, the wife gets pissed off with all the foreign pish I tend to get from LF so there is always virgin media and itunes rentals when we want to watch something more mainstream.

It's all about choice, I can get the films I want now, blockbuster always had 50 copies of the latest $#@!ty rom com. No great loss.

I mostly download on demand through the telly or buy from amazon. they're cheap so why rent.

i was at the site of the formerly huge photo processing factory in Herts a while back - they went down the tubes in less than 15 months when digital became more affordable.
