Dear Hibbie Weedgie,

It certainly was! A l - o - n - g time!

My involvement was over several years and included many different roles.
I started with East Kilbride Pirates in 1991 as a general helper-outer, and made my way up to Club Secretary/General Manager before retiring in 2006. During that time, I also had a spell as Chairman of the Scotish Gridiron Association, and as such, represented Scottish interests on the board of the British American Football Association. Finally, I was also part of the team of statisticians that covered the Scottish Claymores games at Murrayfield and Hampden.

All questions welcome.

Yes, had a few tussles with the Phoenix at Saughton Enclosure.
What's your dad's/uncles' names?

I grew up and went to school with an Iain Cochrane, but don't know of any American Football connection.

Have you got the right name T?
Description sounds like a guy called Jamie McCansh, tho' I doubt he would be involved with the Tigers (he was always a Strathclyde Uni Hawks/Caledonian Roughriders guy).

Sorry, can't say I recognise any of the names. I might know the faces tho'
I think I'm getting my Edinburgh teams mixed up though, it was the Edinburgh Eagles who played at Saughton as did the Lothian Raiders in later years. The Phoenix were around 89-91, just as I was starting out. I remember one game at Meadowbank where we got trounced by about 60 points. Phoenix had an import QB who had played NFL - Al Penn-White was his name.

I know a few of the Glasgow guys, Paul McGonagle, Steve Law, Digger (can't remember his real name - David Grant???), but I can't place this guy. Again, I would probably recognise him if I saw him.

Aye okay, thanks for the reminder! When I say I was starting out in 91, I don't mean playing. Way too for that.

The Clansmen were definitely before my involvement. Never ever saw them play.

Not really. I stepped down in 2006 when I changed job, as I couldn't commit to being there on Sundays.
If I'm available on home gamedays, I pop along and help out by doing the stats or the chain crew.
Until recently I helped maintain the website (www.piratesfootball.co.uk), but someone else appears to be doing that now.
