Inverness - Saturday 8th December

Okay, in response to Vini's request, separate threads for the two away trips in December.
( Just coz he cannae multi-task. Too busy keeping his Bebo site up to date! )

Secondly:-

Inverness CT (A) Saturday 8th December.
For our second long road trip in a 7-day period we are considering running a mini-bus. However there are a number of options to consider.
  • Mini bus there and back on the day of the game.
  • Mini bus up on Saturday, stay overnight and return on the Sunday
  • Use the Friends Fare rail travel scheme again.
Costs for the bus would obviously depend on the numbers travelling. The train would again be £41 for a party of 4, while accommodation is available in Inverness at around £25/30 the night (based on 2 people sharing).

Again I need to know you thoughts fairly quickly.
So please let me know if you’re interested and what would be your preferred option(s).
Can I suggest a cut off point of Sunday 4th November (midnight)?
Note, that’s the date of the Hearts game, so it might be an idea to get your details in earlier.

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

I am totally up for it overnight stay the lot, so long as we can find a decent boozer in Inverness.

But if there and back on the day of the game is what the majority want I am fine with that as well

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

Im able to go to the game, but will opt for travelling back down on Saturday right after the game as im working on the Sunday.

I would think that the train may work out possibly the better mode of transport - however i dont know the time of the trains back after the game and this could be a negative for the choo-choo option.

A bus would work out at least the same cost per head, possible more considering the distance and a bit unfair on the driver - hired or one of the westie boys on the long road up there in December

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

As far as I can make out, train times are -

Depart Glasgow 08:42 - Arrive Inverness 11:57
then
Depart Inverness 18:27 - Arrive Glasgow 22:17

There is one later train in each direction if interested.

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

Ok, i persoanlly wuld vote for the train on an Apex booking and returning back in Glasgow on the Saturday night (those times look pretty decent when u consider the distance Billster) on the grounds that -

- it suits me better as im working on the Sunday - selfish bassa i know

- can get a drink on the train as apposed to a hire bus (for those wishing to)- alcy bassa i know (a couple of drinks really considering the time)

- the apex deal would work out at about a tenner a head - from what it would seem - wich is at least what we would pay for per head for running a bus - add in the fact that u can get a drink (alcy bassa ), the poor driver driving all that way -a hired one or one of "the boys" (not so much
of a selfish bassa ) and that we may run a bus at a loss just likethe one to Tannadice and something says to me that we maybe shoudnt run a bus up to inverness and take a hi as it could be far greater then the hit to dundee

just my two pence though, i fully understand other westie gang members have other ideas, thoughts and plans

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

There are two distinct camps on this one.

Those staying on until Sunday, and those who want/need to be back home on Saturday.

I think it's safe to say there won't be a bus. Trains all round.
I could be wrong, but I think the cheap group ticket only applies on day returns.
Could somebody confirm or shoot me down in flames?

The Overnighters are -
Glasgowian +1
Vini1875
hibs_daft_gla +1
Andy McPake
Joe T Fan Club
Paisley_Hibee

Any more?

The UpandDowners are -
stujay_saorsa
weedgiehibbie (the alky)
my good self (yes, I know, a change of plan)

One more needed for a "Group"

Stay tuned for more details. :SWASHHAT:

Two points :

(1)The cheap group ticket can be used for the overnighters , assuming availability.
(2) The 'group' can consist of 3 or 4, it's the same price.

I'll check on availability tonight.

Re: Inverness - Saturday 8th December

To get the friends fare of £41 (3 or 4 travelling) we'd have to get the following trains :

Daytrippers

Depart : 07:08
Return : 18.27

Overnighters

Depart : 07:08
Return : 12:30

Getting the 08:42 puts the price up to £32.60 each

Thoughts ?

Accomodation

Premier Inn Inverness East : £53
Premier Inn Inverness Centre : £58
Travelodge : £54 (this can sleep 3 a room)
Hotel Merk mentions above : £64

Me getting into Glasgow for 07:08 might be a problem, I'll need to check.

I'm guessing that gets into Inversneckie about 11:00 (conveniently ).
