Default From Thursdays Meeting

Right Folks,

Few things that came out of the meeting:

1. Aberdeen - Train or bus - Most folk said that the train looked the most appropriate. At the meeting it was asked how many could commit to going on the train, 5 said they would those were Brian, Ian, Elaine, Myself and Keith. We need a further 3 names for train tickets due to the offer of 4 tickets for £40.

Anyone wishing to go to aberdeen on the 28th October leave your name here. It will be first 3 names to appear here that get the 3 spare train tickets. If there is more names we can look at additional tickets im sure.

2. Dunfermline (THE PARS) - Bill C spoke about the organising of buses and due to lack of meetings and also good away games, it was decided this was the only other away game until the turn of the new year that we could look at running a bus to, other than the above but it was suggested the train was easier for aberdeen. Could people again leave their name on here for a bus to dunfermline on the 21st October.

3. Nights Out - There was a lengthy discussion regarding club nights out. As discussed previously we tried to organise a bowling night but this failed, so members spoke about trying to arrange another night out. Few options were thrown onto the table and one being a night out at the new Xscape. Activites involved could be ten pin bowling, Crazy Putting (take the title from Brian), Pool and of course drink. Loadsa food places out there aswell for a bit to eat. I am currently looking into costs etc and will let everyone know when i have got costs. The date we are looking at is the 18th November after the game at motherwell. Another option for a later date (date in mind is in december after huns game) is a night at the Grand Ole Opry. This is to be combined into our Xmas night out. This night out is still to be confirmed.

As things progress with the above there will be an update for everyone to see. Minutes of the meeting will be out in due course.

Any suggestions on the above or anything else for the branch fell free to leave your comments and they will be considered.

Cheers

Mark

Can't make it to the Dandy Dons game due to work but can however make it to see Hibs play the Pars in Parland so you can stick me down for the bus - thats 1 at least.

Bill how could i possibly forget to mention that eh?

There has been lack of interest guys on this thread re buses and trains.

The supporters branch at present is going down hill, and if we dont try halt the slide it could be costly!! There has not been alot of views either to this thread!!

Can everyone start leaving a response at least!!

So far for the Train to Aberdeen:

Glasgowian, Elaine, Joe T, Myself, Keith + 1................. 2 spares tickets!!

So far for the Bus to Dunfermline:

Weegiehibee

At least the train is going but the bus is lacking!! This to me makes a supporters club and its been a while since we have had a bus!!

We have got 35+members and not being able to take a 12+ seater bus to away games is shocking!!

Again i will keep u all updated

how come mark? as you said in this post, we have 35+ members. that doesn't strike me as a branch going downhill. maybe one of the reasons could be geographically we're so far apart, running regular buses/trains is not feasable. personally, for me to travel into glasgow to get a supporters bus to anywhere would be more to keep the bus going than seeing common sense. i can drive to dundee from ek in just over an hour. but to drive to glasgow can take over half an hour. i'm sure i'm not alone in thinking this. just my opinion like. i could be wrong (as usual).

i see where you are coming from. maybe most of our members are happy to just be a member and trust the commitee wholeheartedly to run things as best they can. we're not unique in meetings numbers, i think you'll find, unless there is a major debate on the agenda, most members of any group don't regularly go to meetings. if the majority of the branch don't fancy getting a bus to away games or coming to meetings, yet are happy to pay their membership fee every year, then imo, that's how the branch should be run. we can't beat members into submission and force them into doing things they don't want to. that, imo, would be more damaging than not running a bus.

well whats the point the people behind it trying to burst their arse then, if basically they try to organise things for basically no1 to be interested!!

If people are happy with just paying membership fees and not contributing to the branch then i ask why do we have one then? why try organise events etc? why try get more members to join? Im sure if u ask people what they would be looking for in a supporters branch they wont be just joining to pay a membership fee and see nothing from it, im sure they would want things to happen!!

have you tried asking the members what they actually want from the branch? i know of 2 of the members who won't go to any of the meetings, because they have school in the morning.
on a side note, you'll have to contact the hibs website to update the contact details as they still have myself as the main contact. i'll happily pass on anything that comes through, but it'd be better if one of the commitee's details are on the website other than a non commitee member.

sorry, meant to say, congrats on your appointment.

Main reason I don't get along to many meetings/matches is due to working a lot of evening and weekend shifts. If that wasn't the case I would have my name down for as many buses or trains as possible.

Have you thought about e-mailing branch members individually to ask them if they want to go to Aberdeen or Dunfermline? I sometimes wonder how many members look at this forum. Could be there are a fair few members unaware of the travel plans.

In saying that, Jimmy probably has a point with regard to the geographical spread of members. It's probably easier for a lot of folk to take the car. Mind you, the last time I got a branch mini bus (to a CIS Cup tie at Tannadice a couple of seasons ago) the bus was packed. That was a Tuesday/Wednesday night in November so I'm surprised so few people are now interested in a much shorter Saturday afternoon trip to Dunfermline.

Just a thought but the Evening Times has a free section for supporters clubs to advertise travel arrangements. It might be an idea to put something in there about the bus/train. At the very least, it'll raise the profile of the WOSHSC.

There's often a phone number under the 'FanFile' section. You never know, it could be worth a try.

Not a bad idea, although I remember when I was a member of the Dundee branch (not sure if it still exists) back in the early 90s the secretary started getting abusive phone calls from the local Rangers supporters club when we started advertising buses in the Evening Telegraph!

I think a similar situation arose with the old Glasgow Branch when they previously used the Evening Times. Can you imagine the calls you would have got on Sunday night?
