Milk Cup Trouble

Quote:
Police in Northern Ireland are questioning a man after teenage footballers from the Republic came under sectarian attack at an international tournament in Coleraine.
An under-16 and and an under-14 team, both from Dublin, were also moved from their accommodation beside the University of Ulster in Coleraine for their safety.
A 19-year-old man was arrested after stones were thrown and sectarian abuse shouted at the children who were competing in the annual Milk Cup international youth football tournament.
The attack happened at around 10.30pm last night at Cromore Court, near the loyalist Ballysally estate, where Crumlin United and Cherry Orchard's youth teams were staying.
A police spokeswoman confirmed the PSNI was investigating.
Cherry Orchard manager Paul Clare said the incident had upset some of the children.
Mr Clare said one drunken man was singing sectarian songs while their accommodation came under attack from stones.

Not nice to see young kids getting attacked. Is that a dodgy area in NI?

Not really...
It's like anywhere in the North or South where a small group of w**kers cause all the trouble and give areas bad names....

At the end of the day the tournament's been running for twenty odd years and with the media mad world we live in this has been a high profile incident...

Re: Milk Cup Trouble

Spoke to a guy this afternoon who's up there with CherryOrchard and he says the whole thing has been blown out of proportion, Crumlin making a big deal out of a relatively small incident. Of course, once the Evening Herald and the Joe Duffy's of this world got wind of it, it's Drumcree all over again

We have had that here in Waterford for the past two weeks with petrol bombings and shootings between rival knackers the amount of police time wasted on them has been unreal.
