Re: Eircom League 2008

I think the other teams in the league are going to have to rely on Pat's usual 2nd half of the season slump as at the moment they're in danger of running away with it!

Too be honest I can't see the slump this season. We've a great squad. We've played the last 5 games with Stephen Paisley as our only fit 1st choice defender. A lot of players to come back from injury, plus the next transfer window. Its VERY VERY early days but I have to say this is the most confident I've felt about us in years.

Delighted to see Paul "hoofball" Doolin being found out at Drogheda too. He's got class players up there, but has them playing some of the ugliest football in the league

He's our new fitness coach. Keith Fahey talks about him in todays Mail, reckons its thanks to him we're doing so well this season

Looks like Waterford may be going out of the league unless they get a cash injection from somewhere or someone.

From the reports I heard, the Dublin Huns were sh!t. Packed a ten man defence and it worked for them with their one counter attack. Saying that, for all our possession, we didn't have a shot on goal. But can't hold it against Bohs, they done what all teams do when the play against us at Richmond Park. It worked for Derry City also. Fair play to them. First time we've been off the top of the league this season. We'll still win the league though

I would hate to watch bohs every week if they are like that, it was like watching hearts it would make yer eyes bleed. No doubting the effectiveness of it though.

Agreed. Its horrendous to watch.Glenn Crowe is one fat B*stard these days.In fairness though its the kind of league where you only need to defend well and take your chance when it comes.Thats what they did and now they are top.havent seen Derry this season but theyre on the move...

Re: Eircom League 2008

It's horses for courses boys. Bohs really couldn't afford to lose this game after they were beaten by Pats at Dalymount.
I was at the Galway game and they played some good stuff (in the second half albeit).
How many teams are going to go to Inchicore this year and open up? Not many I would wager.

I still think Pats are a better team with genuine class in Keith Fahy. They look like they need a striker though. Is there a transfer window or is it just in line with the other european leagues?Im waiting on Pats an Italy to win a 7 grand accumulator hence my increased interest this season.

Think the transfer window opens in June. Brina Kerr & John McDonnell have been to watch some 6 foot 4 Polish striker playing in Belgium. Definitely need another striker, if O'Neill or Quigley get injured we'll have problems

Is that not the trophy we won for finishing joint top in the 5-a-side tournament? Must have cost you a bit to take it to Prague on Ryannair Mark?

Actually, the big one is the Czech Ice Hocket Championsip trophy, the other one is the Czech football league trophy. Both won this season by Slavia Praha. Standing behind them are the 2 managers Picture taken in Slavia Praha FC's new stadium

Sligo Rovers in a bit of financial difficulty now.€130,000 required in the next few to keep them afloat.Couple of mates are Sligo fans and they always seemed convinced they were a progressive club with new facilities.Good home support too.Bit worrying for the other clubs if they are feeling the pinch to this extent.

There's a fair few other clubs struggling too. Waterford United have made every player a free agent. Galway United seem to be up shit creek too

Waterford had no choice the players are basically out of contracts as they cant guarantee them wages, but as far as i know the club will be ok until the end of the season but after that who knows. there is no getting away from it that most clubs are in deep shit financially.

Sacked for being too fat

Just seeing this one now. He looks a bit like you Mark

Still if he's on $3,000 a week to keep fit, it's not much to ask that he does just that.

ST PATRICK'S ATHLETIC have sacked high-earning midfielder Michael Keane for being too overweight.

He was a good player - I would have kept him, he can just sit in centre midfield in a Robert Prosinecki type 40 a day fatkunt role.

Re: Sacked for being too fat

He had to go. We signed him on the promise he's lose weight. He ended up putting on weight. Very good player, but feck him. He's taking us to court apparently, he doesn't stand a chance. Jason Gavin signed today, and 2 more to be added this week, including that new Polish player

AS I said, Keane is a very good player, but big wages and taking the piss. He'll end up at Boez
