Re: Fairly Quiet

Good win for yiz, it certainly opens up the title race again. Anyway, I'd rather Derry won it than Cork. God, we'd never here the end of it if those langers won the bloody thing.

Was watching Glenavon with my father-in-law-to-be yesterday.

Funniest chant of the game was Carnival De Paris with the lyrics 'Samba.....samba de Mourneview' in the middle!!

Not a bad goal, but considering the ball was about 60ft up the air at one stage, I think there was a certain element of luck about it.

Just on the eL theme, we played $hels last Friday night in what was one of the most hate-filled eL games I've ever been to. Tensions had been running high during the week when 3 $hels players phone numbers had been ahem.. revealed amongst the Bohs fans and a certain amount of threats were made, and the $helbourne CEO wanted to double the entry price for Bohs fans and put us into an uncovered area of the ground. The security was enormous, a line of garda vans filled with the riot squad outside, horse unit etc, and the most stringent body checks I've ever been subjected to. However, that didn't stop guys getting in dozens of raw sausages which were thrown onto the pitch at the 3 judai that were playing with $hels. The best bit was that someone had broken into Tolka Park the previous night and sprayed the word 'JUDAS' in big 6ft lettering in the penalty box which the $hels groundstaff were unable to remove. In a passionate game played in an electric atmosphere, we were beaten 2-1, having had a man sent off after 8mins and then had the worst ever penalty decision given against us. The sickener... one of the judai, Glen Crowe, scored the winner from...yeah, you guessed, the spot were JUDAS was painted on the pitch :-D Having said that, Bohs who included 10 teenagers in their squad played with a great passion and every one of the 2,500 Bohs present felt very proud leaving the ground, if not a little disappointed.

What a game! Sounds class.

How can rugby and gaelic football in Ireland hope to compare with an atmosphere like that.

For passion, it never will, no matter what the media will try to tell us. Take Croker this Saturday for example, it will be packed to capacity with over 82,000 there for the Dublin v Tyrone game. The Dublin fans really make me laugh, they are the original gloryhunting sunshine fans, the vast majority of whom wouldn't even know where Parnell Pk is (where Dublin play their league games). When Dublin are playing in league games in January and February, there's usually only a couple of thousand at these games. But with the sun is out, plenty of media exposure etc, sure it's the popular thing to dust down the sky blue jersey, and as a Dublin 'diehard', head to Hill 16 to become part of the "most passionate" fans in Ireland. Oh, how I want to puke! Dublin are the most obvious example, every other county in Ireland are similar, though obviously wouldn't have the numbers. Yes, there are a few genuine fans, but GAA fans are the ultimate example of gloryhunters. If they win, they'll have a few beers and if they lose, ah sure, it was only a game, lets have a few pints anyway. How can anyone say "It's only a game" about their sport!? It's only a game? My bol*ox it is. I've gone a few days without eating in the past after defeats, not to mention, not talking to ANYONE for days either.

GAA is a great sport, a great spectacle, but don't anyone tell me the fans are more passionate than soccer/football supporters.

And don't even get me going about the fcuking Premiership barstooler brigade that's everywhere (quite often the very same Dublin GAA fan :-D ) who tell you, in the boozer, that "we" won/lost etc when referring to the likes of Man Utd/Wigan/Arsenal etc

Rant over. Phew, glad I got that off my chest Now, did someone mention a trip to Europe....Mmmm

Re: Fairly Quiet

I feel the same way about rugby fans in NI - it's therapeutic to have a rant.

I mean, rather than the fantastic Bohs game you went to the other night....wouldn't you rather go for a pre-rugby international 'sesh' with James and Alisdair, wearing your collar up and talking loudly in the pub/engage in 'wacky' antics before completely failing to go to any local rugby games for the next 12 months???!!!

Re: Fairly Quiet

Have to say as a wee bit of an all rounder when it comes to sport... Well usually if there's a ball involved I'll watch it.......
Love going to watch all three at both a local level and County level.
Would be unable to decide which I'm more passionate about. In third place definietly Rugby..... and there'd be a joint first between Soccer and Gaelic Football, and Hurling would have to be there.....

But first and foremost I love watching gaelic or soccer at the ground rather than in a pub or at home.
When watching games I'd be hughely passionate for the teams involved..
Personally speaking prefer GAA grounds solely because it's non segregated..

And I would say that without doubt every sport in the world has it's Sunshine Bandwagon jumper oners!!!!!!!
