Gentleman Nick Colgan

Lads,

I just posted this in thread on the main board...

Northern Ireland Hibs will always owe Nick respect for his dedication to the club and the fact that he took the time to chat with members of our supporters' club when we presented him with our POTY.

He came across as a true gentleman and Hibby, the respect he showed our members was well beyond the call of duty and that is what we in NI Hibs owe him back wherever he goes.

Does anyone know the best way to contact him to pass on best wishes from our supporters' club? I could email the club in England but I don't know if he would ever get it.

Re: Gentleman Nick Colgan

I am travelling to northhampton on august 13th, the route i take to get there is of no importance, i could call in person to stockport fc and leave a letter or whatever at the club reception for Nick.

A good idea except that he's off to Barnet. I can post one if need be but I'm trying to see if someone can pass on an email or something instead.

Good stuff IAte, ta.

I'm waiting to hear if anyone else has a direct contact and if not I'll give them a shout.

If need be I'll put together a letter on NI Hibs letterheaded paper and send it to the club.

I've just written to the Barnet Supporters' Association and will keep at this one until we get an email or letter away to someone who will pass it to Nick.

Re: Gentleman Nick Colgan

Just sent this message to Nick....

Nick,

This is just a wee note from Northern Ireland Hibs Supporters' Club to wish you all the best at Barnsley.

During your time with Hibs you quite rightly earned the nickname 'Gentleman Nick Colgan' and the occasion when you took a great deal of time to chat with our members during the Hibeesbounce Player of the Year awards will always been remembered by our club.

I also recall standing in the away end at Parkhead chatting to one of the lads from Dublin Hibs, only to find you suddenly saying hello as you had come up to chat to the lads from Dublin and the North (you had seen our two supporters' club banners and were not playing that day).

Always a dedicated Hibs man and a Northern Ireland Hibs favourite, we are certain you will be an asset to Barnsley and would like to pass on our very vest wishes.

Yours,

Re: Gentleman Nick Colgan

Just had this reply from Barnsley Director David Walker, and what a great guy he sounds too.....

'Morning,

Many thanks for your e-mail. Nick will be back in training tomorrow so I will pass your message on to him then.

It's great to read what a fine ambassador he is for his profession. Players of Nick's attitude are worth their weight in gold.

By the way I must admit a passing admiration for the Hibees. I remember watching them in 1973-74 (I think) at Elland Road when Eddie Turnbull was their manager. They had some fine players including John Blackley, Des Bremner, Eric Shaedler, Alex Cropley, Alex Edwards and Pat Stanton.

They should have beaten Leeds. Unfortunately all the clear cut chances fell to Tony Higgins and he kept missing sitters. As I recall Leeds went up to Easter Road and got through. Was it on the away goal rule after a 1-1 draw?

Anyway, ever since that day I watch for Hibs results with a special interest. Given the admiration you and your colleagues have for Nick please be assured that if you ever want to come to Yorkshire to visit us at Oakwell and watch Nick in action for his new club you'll be very welcome.

Best wishes,

David Walker'

I was actually thinking of Burnley, not Barnsley. Stupid me. I didn't realise it was Notts County. Although, I do know that Juventus took their kit from County.
