Another Man Down For Mogga
Hibs injury jinx continues, even when there have been no games for over a week, with news that another midfield player will be out for a lengthy period. Kevin Nicol has been diagnosed with a broken bone in his foot and will be missing for up to 6-8 weeks.
Nicol, who has made 3 top team starts this season, has been on the fringes of the first team squad since Tony Mowbray arrived at Easter Road. He made his breakthrough last season, under Bobby Williamson, and believed he could be an integral part of Mowbrays plans, if given the chance, especially with the injuries sustained by so many others around him, but this injury will set him back somewhat now. .................................... The midfielder, signed by Franck Sauzee from Raith Rovers in 2002, is uncertain exactly how this injury arose stating; 'I first felt the pain during a reserve match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the middle of last month. He said: "My foot became sore during the game although I played on. It gradually became worse the longer the game went but I thought it was nothing more than a wee kick. "I tried to train a couple of days after that match but it was really painful. An initial X-ray didn’t show anything but a second one last week revealed the fracture. The specialist told me it could have been building up over a period of months before the crack appeared." On a better note, Craig Rocastle has returned to training for the first time in a month. Craig, who picked up a thigh injury in a reserve game against Caley Thistle at Easter Road, has only made one competitive appearance for Hibs, ironically enough also against ICT, in the 2-1 win at Pittodrie, he came on as a second half sub for Stephen Glass. .................................. The tall, athletic midfielder had played in a number of reserve team games to bring him up to match fitness before injury prevailed, making a very notable performance in the Festival Cup fixture against Hearts. He is currently in a loan spell from Chelsea, which finishes in January, and Tony Mowbray will be anxious to get as much out of him as possible with the view to a longer, more permanent contract. Tony Mowbray has a long anxious week ahead of him awaiting the completion of this weeks World Cup matches. Hibs have no fewer than six player on International duty, it would have been seven but Derek Riordan pulled out of the Scotland Under-21 squad with a back problem, and after wednesday's game it will be a relieved Mowbray who has no players reporting back with no after-effects.
