The Green Brotherhood Monday Round Up
After a heart stopping performance from Tony’s Tearaways, which jumped from magical to monstrous, we turn our eye to the Greens across the world and their results this weekend, many of which seem to have been score draws.............

In Belgium, Cercle Brugge, scored a 2-1 away win at Westerlo. Having lost their first two matches of the season, St Etienne also drew, although their 2-2 away draw at Paris Saint Germain in one of the better Green Result this weekend. In Germany Champions Werder Bremen lost, something the German Greens are not used to, going down 2-1 at home to surprise package Wolfsburg. The Spanish league returned last night, with the two green Primera Liga teams facing tough opening opposition. Real Betis drawing 1-1 in Numancia, whilst Basque Club Racing Santander lost 2-0 at home to a Henrik Larsson led FC Barcelona. Over the border in Portugal, Sporting Lisbon returned to action with a win, beating Gil Vicente 3-2 in Lisbon. The Americas and in Mexico Santos Laguna did not play, whilst farther south in Peru, Deportivo Waanka seemed to have ended their season eleventh from fourteen on 30 points. In the good ole US of A, we welcome the latest Green Brotherhood club, Portland Timbers, nominated by Arizona based Hibby, Cactus Hibs. Hailing from the US City reknowned for clouds, drizzle, rain and decent beer (Ring any bells Hibs and Groningen fans?), the Portland Timbers finished the regular season as the top team in the A-League with a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Wave United before 7,833 on Sunday evening at PGE Park. Strikers Byron Alvarez and Fadi Afash combined for the two Portland goals, with Afash tallying the game-winner. The Timbers wrapped up their most successful A-League regular season to date as the team with the best record in the league, surpassing Montreal on the final day of competition. The ten-game unbeaten streak is a franchise high for the Timbers, who have allowed just six goals during the run while topping the A-League with 58 strikes on the season. Portland will square off with archrival Seattle in the Western Conference Semi-finals beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 1 at PGE Park. The second leg of the two-game aggregate goal series will move to Seattle on Sunday, Sept. 5. We wish them all the very best in their play offs. Hungary next and Ferencvaros prepare for their visit to Millwall and the scenic delights of South London and the Old Kent Road, continue their great start to the season, beating MTK 2-1 remaining top with twelve points from four games. Across the border in Austria, Rapid Vienna lost 2-1 to Pasching, whilst in Denmark; Viborg lost 1-0 at home to the unpronounceable Nordsjælland. In England, ex Hibs Boss Bobby Williamson Plymouth, continue their wee run of defeats, losing 3-1 away to Watford, not that I take any pleasure in them losing at all. Yeovil Town are back in form winning for the fourth game in succession, this time winning 3-1 at home to Rushden and Diamonds, taking them up to fourth in Championship 2. Ex Hibby’s Clubs Daniel Andersson’s club Helsingborgs managed a 1-1 draw away at Malmo last midweek, whilst another ex Keeper Nicky Colgan club Barnsley lost 2-1 at home to Roland Edge’s Hull City. The Non-Greens Turkey and Champions Fernabahce continued their winning run with a 2-0 away win at Kayserispor. In La Liga, both Barca and Real Madrid had winning starts, Barca with a comfortable 2-0 away win at Racing Santander in the strangely named La Sardinera Stadium in this Basque Country seaport, whilst Real Madrid pick-pocketed Real Mallorca in the Son Moix in Palma, winning 1-0 in a game dominated by the Mallorquin club. I predict a closely run League this year with Barca champions, and Valencia and Deportivo fighting out second. Los Galacticos Ingleses may struggle if last night is anything to go by? Wish your team could get a mention on the round up? Sent me a private message with you club details and we will, wherever possible, add your club to our summary
