The Green Brotherhood Monday Round Up
After a decent performance but ultimate heavy lost at Ibrox for Tony’s Young Tigers, we turn our eye to the Greens across the world and their results this weekend.
The season started for a number of Green Brotherhood clubs last week and it’s a trip to Holland first and the bounce’s old pals over in Holland at FC Groningen, who managed a home draw last week followed by a narrow loss at Vitesse on Friday night. This is FCG’s last year at Ooster Park, before they move to theire new purpose built facilities at Euroborg. Lets hope the Grunns have a special last season at the fine old stadium. Also in Holland, little VVOG return to action next weekend. In Belgium, Cercle Brugge, lost 3-1 at home to Standard Liege, leaving them with one point from a possible nine at this seasons start. ![]() Having lost their first two matches of the season, St Etienne managed to get their first points on the board with a 1-1 draw at home to Strasbourg. In Germany Champions Werder Bremen didn’t play but remain on top with two wins out of two. The Spanish and Portuguese leagues do not return until August 29. ![]() In Mexico Santos Laguna have had a mixed start with a 2-0 home win followed by a 2-1 away loss at Culiacan, whilst farther south and Peru, where Deportivo Waanka climbed out of relegation trouble beating Estudiantes 4-1 at home last week. To Switzerland where the league returned at the end of July, St Gallen remain unbeaten but mid-table with one win and three draws so far this season, whilst in Greece, the return of football has been delayed in the home of the European National Champions due the Olympics. We will be watching last year’s champions Panathanaikos hold on to their crown from September 19th. ![]() ![]() Hungary next and Ferencvaros continue their great start to the season, beating old foes of Hibernian, the reformed Videoton 1- 0 away remaining top with nine points from three games. Acoss the border in Austria, Rapid Vienna remains 2nd after beating Mattersburg 3-0 in Vienna. In Denmark, Viborg beat Aalborg 2-1, taking them to fourth after four games. In England, ex Hibs Boss Bobby Williamson Plymouth, stay equal top with Wigan after beating Sunderland 2-1 at Home Park. I suspect when the winning bubble does burst the sound of ‘told you so’ will echo around east central Scotland and the Blobster will go one to be found out big style. Yeovil Town are back in form winning for the second week on the trot, this time 2-1 away at the team computer sweary filters don’t like, Scun-thorpe United. Ex Hibby’s Clubs ![]() Daniel Andersson’s new club Helsingborgs play at Malmo tomorrow night, whilst another ex Hibs Keeper Nicky Colgan helped Barnsley get a 2-2 away draw at Barnsley and Roland Edge’s Hull beat Oldham 2-0 to remain second in the Coca Cola Division 1. The Non-Greens Turkey and Champions Fenerbahce won 3-0 against Istanbulspor, whilst reports on Barca, Real Madrid, Sampdoria, Fiorentina and other bouncer favourites will return with their leagues return. Wish your team could get a mention on the round up? Sent me a private message with you club details and we will, wherever possible, add your club to our summary |
