Positive, positive, positive....That's Football!

Yesterday was, for me, another step in ridding Hibs of the 'heid down, we'll not survive the last ten minutes' attitude that hung around Easter Road like a bad smell under Williamson. Having missed our opener because I was drinking when I should have been queuing, only to find out they had ran out of change at the turnstiles anyway, I finally sat down and spent most of the first half concerned for our future.

Then Big Tone made two excellent changes in removing the inigma that is Tam McManus and the obviously very unfit Murphy and replacing them with the Young Northern Irish Team. Sheils and Morrow brought a whole new life to the team. Sheils gets tore in, covering the whole park when required and Morrow controls the ball and looks for space, giving the much maligned but very much improved Garry O'Connor, more space and added confidence.

Simon Brown, in goal, looked shaky in the first half, but his two wonder saves at the end suggests we do have a good keeper there, who maybe just has to learn to command his area a bit more. Whittaker was as steady and confident as ever, although I still think he is better coming forward than defending. Murdock was in the main excellent, although a Motherwell pal of mine tells me he went off for a clear punch to the back of a 'well forwards head and that is unacceptable. Caldwell looks steady, has a penchant for trying to play the ball when a punt may be the simpler solution. Grant Brebner was immense again and surely should be knocking on Berti Volgts door for a place in a Scotland squad that will no doubt be decimated over the weekend. He was harshly treated in his sending off and we will miss him badly. Scott Brown still drifts in and out the game, and I hope his fire returns. A Motherwell player lost a boot and when he tried to retrieve it, Brown cheekily kicked it away.

Stephen Glass performed well at full back and I would keep him there until Murphy gets himself fit.

Now to Beuzelin, have we discovered another French Star? Yes, I think so. Every game he gets fitter, every game his passing more accurate and every game he does something more to remind me of the Blessed Franck. I expect great things of Guillaume, he played the full match yesterday for the first time and the look of sheer unadulterated joy as he ran to the cheering Hibernian support at the end of the match reminded me of another Frenchman, filling me with pride and hope for our club.

Up front, I think Garry O'Connor had a good game? A season ago, Garry would not have stretched that extra yard to knock the second goal in. Garry has his doubters, but I genuinely believe he is coming good. He is hungry, he is trying and if he could master the art of the first touch

, he could hit double figures this year.

Young Sheilds did his first team hopes no harm when he came on, he has a fire about him and a future team with the likes of Shields, Kevin Thompson and Sheils would have opposition quaking in their boots.

Yesterday Hibs supporters turned out in good numbers to back the boys. Lets keep this up. We can be a noisy bunch when we get going and it was obvious the players appreciated our backing in those last scary four and half minutes of two minutes stoppage time

The large Hibs Support

Finally, Tony Mowbray gave a good interview on Radio Scotland after the match, praising the passion and fight of the players and generally talking the talk, after walking the walk. One thing, a wee catchphrase that Tony used five or six times in his interview....That's Football, is one that will stick to him. And if the second half performance is the football he is referring to, well 'that's football' that will have the fans returning to Easter Road in numbers.

Well done Hibs!!

Glory, Glory
