The Green Brotherhood Monday Round Up

The Green Brotherhood Monday Round Up

Well, the football’s back at last. This season the bounce intends to bring you the results of all the clubs in the Green Brotherhood, from FC Groningen in Holland, across to Santos Laguna in Mexico and all stops in between. We also plan to keep you up to date with the results of the clubs of some selected former Hibs players and management staff. We will continue a round up of the various leagues around the world and as always we rely on your feedback, comments and requests to ensure we bring you a weekly round up that includes your own favourite clubs.

Hibs stumbled at the first post Saturday, with Tony Mowbray’s team showing much promise, but lacking the killer touch in front of goal. The season started for a number of Green Brotherhood clubs this weekend including the return of the legendary St Etienne to the French First Division, where we start the new seasons Green Brotherhood Monday Round Up.

Over 30,000 fans turned up to witness the French Greens return to Ligue 1, only to witness a 0-1 home loss to Monaco, with Chevanton’s first minute goal being enough to gain three points for the Principality club.

Last season’s German Champions returned to action with Werder Bremen beating Shalke 1-0, Valdez stealing a late goal.

WB v Schalke action

FC Groningen returns to league competition next Sunday, at home to RKC Waalwijk. This is the last season for the Grunners at the legendary Ooster Park. FCG will move to their new super stadium Euroborg at the end of the season. Talk of a Pre Season tournament involving various Groningen ‘minded’ clubs is in its infancy, but the hibees bounce will be pushing for Hibernian to be part of the next step in FC Groningen’s History.

Dutch wee team VVOG also return to serious action next week.

In Belgium, Cercle Brugge, returned to action with a 2-2 home draw with Lokeren.

The Spanish league does not return until August 29, with Spanish Greens, Real Betis, recently competing in the pre season Kappa Cup in Sevilla with Feyernoord, Spurs and Partisan Belgrade.

Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon also return to action on 29 August.

In Mexico Santos Laguna start their new season at home to Atlas next Sunday, whilst farther south and Peru, where Deportivo ****a, remain in relegation trouble, third from bottom of the Peruvian Premier League, this may have changed as yesterdays results are no yet available?

Santos Laguna

To Switzerland where the league returned at the end of July. St Gallen picked up a tidy 4 – 2 home win against Xamax, leaving them with a win and a draw in the new season http://shop.fcsg.ch/load-image.shopi...ble=379&size=0 whilst in Greece, the return of football has been delayed in the home of the European National Champions due the Olympics. We will be watching last years champions Panathanaikos hold on to their crown from September 19th.

Hungary next and Ferencvaros returned to league action with a very good 4-2 away win at Gyor, whilst across the border in Austria, Rapid Vienna 0-0 with Salzburg , but remain 2nd after four games. In Denmark, Viborg beat FC Copenhagen 3-2, keeping them seventh after three games.

In England, ex Hibs Boss Bobby Williamson and ex Centre Half Matt Doumbe’s Plymouth, continued their non-losing ways with a mouth-watering 0-0 draw at home to Millwall. The disappointing Home Park spectacle ended with Millwall the better side, but they were left to rue the lack of a cutting edge up front. Results and performances like that should pack the fans in Bobby eh?

Yeovil Town lost three one away to Bury in another poor green start to the new season. No doubt the poor copy Celtic tops don’t help?

Ex Hibby’s Clubs

Daniel Andersson’s new club Helsingborgs made up for last week’s loss with a decent 4-0 home win over Elfsborg, whilst another ex Hibs Keeper Nicky Colgan helping Barnsley get a 1-1 away draw at Milton Keynes Dons and Roland Edge’s Hull beat Bournemouth 1-0.

The Non-Greens

Turkey first this time, and Champions Fernabahce were held to a 2-2 draw with Rizespor on Friday night, whilst football in Spain and Italy does not return for a few more weeks, Sampdoria won 1-0 in a frenzied friendly at Crystal Palace on Saturday, witnessed by the Bounces own Undercover Elephant, whilst Barca bring ex Celtic Hero Henrik Larsson to Cardiff on Saturday to face the might of Parma.

Wish your team could get a mention on the round up? Sent me a private message with you club details and we will, wherever possible, add your club to our summary
