The trialists name is confirmed.

Talk 107 can reveal the name of Hibs mystery trialist - he's French striker Steven Pinau.

The news confimed to us by his agent.

The 20 year old featured in both Hibs friendlies against Middlesbrough and Wigan this week,

Speaking earlier this week, Mixu Paatelainen has high hopes for the frontman.

Re: The trialists name is confirmed.

Apparently he has been signed by Genoa on a five year contract, and they are looking to loan him out for a year.

I thought he showed some good qualities during the Wigan game, but I get annoyed with "strikers" who bottle it when given a half chance of a pot at goal as Pinau did near the end of the game. A strikers job is to score goals, and if Mixu considers him to be a potential goalscorer for us this season then let's go for it.

TBH I don't like loan signings, but at the moment we need as much quality as we can get in the side from wherever.

As we are short in the striker department i would give him a deal.he is strong and quick and would certainly cause more problems to teams than ross campbell.

Re: The trialists name is confirmed.

Man City wanted to sign him, but he opted for Genoa. He played for France under 19's. He played 14 minutes for Monacos top team last season.

I don't fancy loan signings either, I never feel they are as committed to the cause as the rest of the team.

I like the look of the guy, even for a loan spell. He must be decently rated by Genoa to get a five year deal.

Something strange going on here, [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] has Steven Pinau down as a defender. [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register] has him down as a midfielder. So how come when he is at Hibs he's a striker?

Out of Wikipedia, Talk 107, and L'Equipe I'd trust l'Equipe tbh...

Cant remember him doing very much apart from a shot that landed in Row Z...Maybe another flop as we havn't signed any strikers in a while who have actually done anything.

I don't have any problem with year-long loan deals. Players rarely stay with the club for more than two years anyway. Sounds like he has a bit of a pedigree so if he can add a bit of strength and depth to our squad then why not go for it?

Re: The trialists name is confirmed.

Having just checked about 10 more sites on Google, none seem to suggest that he is an out-and-out striker. Most suggest he is a midfileder.

Why, oh why, are we trying to sign yet another midfielder. Or, taking a risk on a guy who does not normally play up front.

The German sites are more ecouraging though. They refer to him as "Der Offensivallrounder" which suggests at the very worst he is an attacking midfielder!

I makes you wonder how we cannot just go out and sign a proven SPL goal-scorer (eg Lovell) as back-up to Nish and Flechter, rather than yet again taking a punt on an unproven youngster from the Continent.

FWIW I think loan signings are an avenue that Hibs havent gone down often enough for my liking. The loan systems worked well for Arabs and Falkirk. Id rather we gamble on a guy on loan for 6 months / a year than take a gamble on a guy we sign , give a 2 or 3 year contract and then find out hes a dud who we cant get shot of. Apart from a small handful of gems that latter scenarios been all too common last few seasons at ER , particularly when it comes to foriegn players.

Whether this guys the one we should be going down the loan route with I have my doubts .... Id be more confident if it was someone like a Stokes or a Flood with a proven UK fitba pedigree (albeit at a reserve or lower league level).

Re: The trialists name is confirmed.

I thought he looked better in the Boro game than against Wigan...

but then again he wasn't really an out an out forward in that game...

I did feel against Wigan that himself and Yantorno did look like two midfield players trying to play upfront...

an attacking midfield player / stand in forward maybe ?
